Over 1000 small shops make up the Grand Bazaar and you must visit if in town. Several long passageways make up the bazaar and it concentrates on bags, shoes, clothes, leather goods souvenirs jewellery etc - aimed mainly at the British visitor the goods are mainly fake but in fairness some are such good copies they are hard to distinguish from the real thing. The shoes I bought are very good and 60% cheaper than at home in England.
You do run a gauntlet of shop keepers trying to entice you in to their shops but keep walking if you do not want to go in. This does make browsing difficult but there are so many shops you will find many where if the owner is busy you can browse.
Always haggle - the recession (as I write this in late 2011) in Europe means visitor numbers are down and the traders need to sell and will sell at what they can get. The buyer has the advantage if you are prepared to fight for a bargain!

The Bazaar is quite big and has quite a few interesting shops. Quite a few Leather ware shops, as well as the usual souvenirs, carpets, turkish delight, turkish coffee, jewellery, herbs, spices, teas, ceramics, perfumes, watches, clothing, pipes & belly dancing costumes. Also available here is the Local Honey which is produced on the Datca Peninsula.
It is undercover and worth a stroll around, you may find something different here because of the local products.
Remember, there are lots of shops in Marmaris, so have an idea of the prices before you buy and barter!

This is one of the hundreds of shops to be found in the bazzar, this one sold just about everything you could think off. There was so much stuff in the shop you could not get in, but by the time my wife brought everything in sight you had no trouble getting in hahahahahaha.

If the carpet shops in the bazaar didn't do it for you, don't worry, there will be plenty more opportunity to purchase a little something to put in front of the fire.

Interspersed with all the restaurants along the seafront are plenty more carpet shops, just waiting for you to come along.

OK, well unlike me you probably knew exactly what you were going to get when you came to Marmaris, and that was probably the reason you came here in the first place. So without further ado, let's just bite the bullet and go shopping.

Here we have part of the bazaar. Not very traditional, more a covered arcade. If fake designer bags and wallets are your thing, this is the place to come. Same goes for anything made of leather. Ardent shoppers could probably spend hours and hours here picking up all kinds of cheap tat. But if you aren't into shopping in a big way you'll soon get tired of it.

The main strip along the harbour is where you'll find the larger boats, including the dive boats. There's not a whole lot else here, to be honest. The bazaar is at one end, a small square with a statue of (I believe, though I could be mistaken) Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern-day Turkey, at the other.

You can find anything you want with unbelievable prices... don't forget to negotiate the rate. The bazaar was organized every Tuesday in Marmaris when we went there.
