Ferry to Rhodes
There is a small ferry terminal in Marmaris - quite a way out of the town and you need to take a taxi.
We took a hydrofoil to Rhodes in Greece from here - there is duty free here but I did not see a restaurant. The public toilets were clean and well appointed.
Queuing once through customs are in long covered walk way which has some seating but not enough for everyone travelling.
On return the queues to enter Turkey move slowly - this is mainly due to people having to pay to but a visa to enter the country - £10 in UK sterling but I am unsure what it is for people not from the UK.
by boat from Greece
If you are in Greece you can reach Marmaris from Rhodes with an hydrofoil. It takes only 1 hour and costs 75 euro for a return ticket. Many people come this way as a daytrip from Rhodes or for going further inside Turkey. Aegean airlines has many daily flights from Athens to Rhodes with a cost that starts at 80 euros for a return ticket.
I took the morning flight that arrived at Rhodes at 6:20am and then the hydrofoil departed for Marmaris at 8:30am. On my return one week later I took the hydrofoil at Marmaris at 16:00 and the plane to Athens departed at 21:00.
You have to take your ticket one day before at any travel agent in Rhodes or in Marmaris. Go there the day before your departure because you have to show your passport for the customs.
As an alternative you can fly from Greece to Izmir and then take the bus down to Marmaris.
FERRY MARMARIS TO RHODES
I visited the Island of Rhodes via a ferry from Marmaris. There are different Ferries and Hydrofoils that run daily. What is misleading, is they are advertised for every day, but this is not the case until the Summer season begins. I still got to Rhodes on the days I wanted, but had to go by slow Car Ferry to get there, and returned on a Ferry, with no choice of times. This threw my plans into disarray. I did want to go there & back by Catamaran.
COST OF OPEN RETURN TICKET IN 2009 was 75 Euros.
This included all port taxes, etc.

Ferry to and from Rhodes Greece
I travelled from Rhodes Greece to Marmaris Turkey on the 8am Catamaran ferry, the trip took just over one hour. The ferry is used by day trippers and one way travellers. Travellers who are going to stay in Turkey need to buy a Visa on arrival in Marmaris i paid £10 english. I believe Euro,Dollar, and YTL also accepted. The port is a long way out,i took a taxi.
Hop onto the ferry/catamaran and visit Greece :)
If you have a long enough holiday in Marmaris, and don't want ot lay on the beach all the time, a good idea is to make a day-trip to the island of Rhodes (Rodos) which belongs to Greece. It can be done well as a day trip. The old town of Rhodes is very charming.
The comfortable catamaran trip takes only 50 minutes to one direction.
You can sit down and watch out from the windows. There is a bar inside, selling soft drinks, beer, snacks and sweets.
Information about the boat trips to Rhodes is easily available in every major hotel, also elsewhere.
Schedule and prices: a day-trip costs 45 euros per person (30 eur return ticket + 15 eur port tax). The ferry leaves Marmaris passenger harbour at 09:00 a.m. and back from Rhodes at 16:30 p.m.
If you want to stay overnight in Rhodes, a one way trip will cost more but it's possible. The price is then around 70 eur (return, per person, incl. taxes).

Along the port you can see many boats that advertise different cruises along the coastline of Marmaris. Ask some of them about the prices and what’s the itinerary of the cruise, how long does it last etc
Hiring a boat out is the best way to see the beautiful coastline Marmaris has to offer and its quite cheep as well, you can hire a boat like this with the owner for about 80 pounds a day and thats for 4 people

BY BOAT OR HYDROFOIL
You can catch a boat or hydrofoil from Marmaris to rhodes every day in the summer starting at 9.15am and the trip costs US$32. one way. These tickets are avalable from any travel agent in Marmaris.
Take the boat to Marmaris for once! (2,5 euros)
Every half hour you can take the boat from Içmeler or another place to Marmaris.
It's cheap (€ 2.5) and fast (15 min).
The owner of the boat sometimes plays music, and dances with people on the boat, and tries to sell some typical turkish tea,...
Mostly the son on the owner is on board to help him debarqing or collecting the money.
From Rhodes you can take this boat - the "King Saron" - or one much like it. They depart from Rhodes Town harbour quite early in the morning (before 8am, if memory serves me right).
EU citizens - although Turkey isn't in the EU, you don't need to worry about visas for daytripping. I don't know about longer visits. Don't forget to buy your duty free stuff on the way back. The alcohol and cigarettes are significantly cheaper than you'll find anywhere in the EU. But remember you do have pretty small limits.
Take the ferry
I took the ferry from Rhodes, Greece for a one day trip to Marmaris. There are a few different lines that goes from Marmaris --> Rhodes daily, so if you want to change your views, and even continent (Europe & Asia), you should take the ferry.
