Dalaman Airport, Marmaris

The worst airport I have ever travelled through. Arrival is fine but departure back to England was a nightmare. There is a scan as soon as you enter the airport and then at check in I have never know queues move so slowly. The staff on the check in desks seemed to disappear on a regular basis and often had to call the UK travel representatives over to assist in problems - mainly people returning to the UK on package flights on non UK passports.
There is then a second scan for hand luggage - it took so long to get through two scans and the check in there was only 30 minutes before the plane left. Fine for most people but for those who want a meal or to shop hardly any time at all.
Cards not accepted for excess luggage nor Turkish lira - sterling and euros only. The fast food restaurants are expensive (in a country that is remarkably cheap) and there are no cash points in departures , only arrivals.

The day we arrived at Dalaman airport its brand new terminal was opend for the first time, its far bigger than the old terminal with lots to keep you amused while you wait for your delayed flight home LOL

Airport transfers are offered by Travel Agencies which you can arrange on internet, services are provided by cars, minibuses, midi buses and coaches depending number of travellers from / to Dalaman Airport, Marmaris, Dalyan, Fethiye, icmeler, Turunc. Please also look for TURSAB bonded Tour Operator so you have a complete assurance of a first class service.
The prices are different for transportation you choose like by car up to 4 people will cost about 40 GBP / 65 Euro ... By minibus which is for 11-12 people will cost about 60 GBP / 90 Euro.... After you contacted with the operators and gave the flight details (flight number and etc...) theyre sending their transfer service to the airport, someone is waiting at the gate holding a card writes your name on it.... ;)

Clearly the best way to reach Marmaris is via Dalaman Airport or by boat from Rhodes, Greece. But if you are on a road tour, don't underestimate the distances. The route is scenic but the road is winding and what looks short on the map isn't necessarily so in real life.

Parking and filling up can be a pain. I guess there are good reasons for both (uncontrolled parking could mean chaos and a gas station near the beautiful pine trees isn't the best idea) but just keep this tip in mind so that you avoid unpleasant surprises.

Havaþ shuttles between Marmaris and Fethiye started to run on the 01st of January 2004.

This year we deside to book a private transfer from Dalaman airport to Marmaris. We where 11 people and we took contact with Stress Free tours on internet. They gave us a good price. 160 Euro for both ways. They where waiting for us in the airport and took us directly to the hotel. The day we had to go back, they pick us up at the hotel at the correct time and the driver also stopped at a local cafe at our request. He was a quiet driver, and for the first time J could enjoy the trip to the airport. We will use theme aigain thats for shore.

The region's main airport is at Dalaman, 120km east of Marmaris and buses run every hour from Dalaman to Marmaris. The main airline company in Dalaman is Turkish airlines.%c
