Dolmus in Turkish means crush and these little buses can be quite a crush although this was nit often when we travelled on them.
Different towns have different coloured Dolmus - green in Marmaris and from nearby Icmeler orange. There is a flat fare that you pay directly to the driver and also no bus stops - the buses can be hailed anywhere and they stop anywhere - even next to pedestrian crossings!
The terminus in Marmaris is near the harbour.
well... From Marmaris or Ýcmeler if you dont like to use dolmus (Minibuses) to travel, try taxi boats running between Marmaris and Icmeler cost about 5 YTL ( 2 GBPS / 3Euros per person... It takes about 20 minutes or less and with small boats for 15-20 people and you can watch all seaside and feel freshen up for some reason.... In Marmaris just next centrum where you can see Ataturk Statue also, just behind there are boats docked waiting and sails every half an hour in summer season.... In Icmeler goto the seaside ;) where the big or small trip boats are waiting ( Front of Hotel Aqua) .... Ask!
Very easy to use these busses.
Cheap (€0,6) and easy to recognise (orange busses go from Marmaris to Içmeler, green dolmus bus goes from Içmeler to Marmaris).
The bus station is near the big Maxi Tansas shop in the centre (near Burger King).
Taxi's are quite expensive in Marmaris. My Hotel told me to use one to get to the Port as it is quite a way, which it was, too far to walk, as it was on the outskirts of the city. My Taxi from my Hotel to the port cost 22t/l.
On the way back, I decided to do it differently. I caught a Taxi to Tansas which really isn't that far, and it cost 10 t/l, then a Dolmus back to my Hotel for 1.25 t/l, so I halved the original cost and it was just as easy.
Dolmus in Marmaris is an excellent, cheap way to get around. The main Dolmus station is located next to the big Tansas shopping centre. Look for a Bus with the Destination you want on the board in the front window, hop on, pay the driver, take a seat. If you are getting on enroute, flag the Bus down, hop on, either pay then or when you get off. Tell driver where you want to get off if not at the end of the route. They run every 5mins to half hour.
Orange goes to Icmeler, Purple to Adaagzi, Green to Siteler and Blue to different spots in Armutalan. Price varies, but is cheap.
Main Dolmus station is infront of Tansas store, located in Ulusal Egemlik Caddesi.
Marmaris bus station [Otagar] is slightly out of town, can be reached by Dolmus from anywhere in Marmaris. There are several offices selling tickets. Buses go to loads of places including Istanbul, Mugla, Ancara and Bodrum. Marmaris to Bodrum is 180 km.
The Dolmus is a mini bus service in Marmaris. Just flag it to stop for you. Pay the driver on entry or when leaving, its cheap 1.75 YTL. I noticed 3 routes , each route has a coloured van for that service. Red was Marmaris to Icmeler, and i think green to the bus station [Otogar]
the dolmus bus is best way to get around marmaris or just outside marmaris
all you pay is one lira dont pay for children and check your change because they dont bother giving you it unless you ask especially if its your first time in turkey. they will stop anywhere you ask them to but beware they do get very crowded
Most of the people in Marmaris travel around with DOLMUS, a mini bus that can carry around 22 people. They have different colors and usually they have in front the stops and the final destination. You can use one of them to go to Icmeler, Armutalan, Siteler etc During summer time they are packed with people that go to the different beautiful bays of Marmaris.
Of course you can easily take a taxi. You will see them wait in many spots, there are some in the port too. For some long distances they have fix prices but you can bargain.
These little buses , called Dolmus, is a cool way of getting around. Its cheap and runs very frequently, all the way up to 1am !!
You can jump on one of these and it will take you from one end of town to the other, and also right the way to the next few towns. The cost is between 1.00 ytl - 1.50 ytl which is from like 40 pence. The rate of the lira to the pound is roughly 2.50 to £1. (rate in june).
You can hail one of these buses down at any point, you jump on and often pass your money up thru other passengers until it gets to the driver. You get your change in the same way!!! its quite funny but it works. The drivers are polite and happy to help.
Theres different colour buses indicating the destinations, ie the Orange bus will take you to Icmeler, the light blue/green one will take you to Marmaris
