Getting Around Marmaris

Even though the majority of the package tour organizers have the bus transportation between the airport and hotel, and many spend the majority of their time on the beach and harbour - I warmly recommend renting a car at least for some days if not for the whole time.

Without a car so much of the beauty of this part of Turkey is missed. Just some examples of day trips (can drive back to the hotel for night): the wonderful natural wonder Pamukkale with its limestone basins and healthy water containing lime plus the Kleopatra pool which is one of a kind; containing mineral water.

Another great and beautiful place is Knidos; it is worth the careful driving to drive all the narrow mountain road to its end. There are old ruins of the ancient Knidos, also on the way we had to stop many times to take pictures as it was so beautiful.

I don't remember where we rented the car from, but everything went smoothly, the place was reliable, we could negoatiate all the insurance and other issues in the usual way.
Driving is easy; just have to be a little bit more careful than home (depends on which country you come from...). The locals seemed to drive faster than people in our traffic culture which is very organized and controlled.

P.S. If you rent an open-roof car and/or side windows are down, don't forget the sunscreen...I did and I burnt myself a little bit. I misthought "we are going to be in a car...." The temp may get as hot as 55 C in the direct sunshine in Turkey in the middle of summer.
