On the way back...

Marmaris Castle was rebuilt from scratch in 1522 by the Ottoman sultan Süleyman the Magnificent when he had set out for his campaign on Rhodes, for which Marmaris served as a base. Lord Nelson and his entire fleet sheltered in the harbour in 1798, en route to Egypt to defeat Napoleon’s armada at the Battle of Aboukir. Since 1979, renovation work...

Marmaris Transportation

  • Dolmus - Mini Bus

Dolmus mini buses are so easy to use to get around & cheap, once on if you can't get to the driver to pay just pass the money down through the bus & any change will come back to you in the same way. Good & quite funny just tell them how many for, You can pick them up from outside your hotel on the main road or from any part of your walk, just wave...

  • Boats and Ferries

There is a small ferry terminal in Marmaris - quite a way out of the town and you need to take a taxi. Queuing once through customs are in long covered walk way which has some seating but not...

  • Dalaman Airport

The worst airport I have ever travelled through. Arrival is fine but departure back to England was a nightmare. There is a scan as soon as you enter the airport and then at check in I have never know queues move so slowly. The staff on the check in desks seemed to disappear on a regular basis and often had to call the UK travel representatives over...

Vogue Jewellery Center moved this year from the main road to Datca Road next to KIPA supermarket. • Finding an Ancient Treasure

On the last day of our 7-day gulet cruise returning to Marmaris, I was standing on the after deck watching the captain steer for home. Suddenly we both saw an orange object bobbing in the sea ahead. “A buoy?”, I asked. “No way” he answered. He steered clear and stopped the motor and called the crew to drop a rubber life boat with an outboard motor....
