    DAY TRIPS

    by annawalton13 Written Feb 23, 2014

IF YOU WANT TO BOOK A DAY TRIP YOU MUST CHOOSE THE HOTEL REPS. WHEN WERE IN GRAND PASA HOTEL WE BOOKED ALL OF OUR TRIPS WITH OZZY. HE WAS SO HELPFUL AND HIS PRICES WERE A LOT CHEAPER THAN THE BIG TRAVEL AGENCY' S REPS. ALSO DO NOT MISS TURKISH BATH IN THE BEGINING OF YOUR HOLIDAY TO GET SUN TAN QUICKER.

  • DAY TRIPS FROM THE STREET SHOPS.

by annawalton Written Nov 21, 2013

NEVER EVER BOOK YOUR EXCURSIONS FROM THE STREET SHOPS. THEY ONLY TELL LOTS OF LIES AND SOMTIMES YOU NEVER GET PICKED UP FOR THE TRIPS. WE COULD NOT GET OUR MONEY BACK AND THEY WERE SO RUDE, TOO. AFTER OUR BAD EXPERIENCE WE BOOKED ALL THE TRIPS FROM OUR HOTEL REP. HE WAS VERY HELPFUL AND HIS PRICES WERE REASONABLE.

    Mineral water

by Ronza Written Oct 29, 2010

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It is not a real danger or warning. I didn’t like the mineral water and couldn’t drink it in Marmaris. I tried and bought several kinds of bottled water but that didn’t work. It wasn’t dangerous to drink it, nothing happened to us but it didn’t taste good.

Dont buy any grapes from the guys on the beach, they tried to rip us off, when they tell you the price & you sort your money out ,they start to confuse you by taking it out your hand & by the time you realise you probably have lost a few quid( so they end up very expensive grapes) also they wash them in tap water to make them look fresh.......stomach ache......

  • atrocious spelling

by cottagerose Written Dec 17, 2006

Having been to Marmaris and found it just lovely if one pays attention, I see that the worst danger is here on this website. If I read a warning about "thives," not to mention the other just plain silly errors by the previous writer, I would worry most about how limited my fellow travelers are, since a simple spell check, etc. would solve the grammar problems. I am no saint, but it is fairly easy not to look like a dufus online.

    dont be naive girls

by lilmad Written Oct 24, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Dont be naive when you go here the place is great and the people are so so friendly and being a girl you get a lot of attention where ever you go in Marmaris but just remember turkish men they usually only want you for one thing sex and in some cases your money dont get me wrong i dont mean every turkish man because most of them are lovely but i got told this over and over again by some turkish male friends i made and its obvious just a warning to be careful, so dont lead any of them on if your not interested because you could put yourself in horrible or even dangerous situation as some dont like to take no for a answer.

When buying phone cards make sure you buy them at the post office located in the bazzar this way you will only pay the correct ammount, other shops who sell phone cards can charge whatever price they wish and you can end up paying double

    Amazingly some cars have stopped

Traffic in Marmaris is crazy. Cardrivers drive like mad and there are very few who stops for people trying to cross the roads. Best thing to do is to wait until there are no cars for at least 100 meters and run over the street. There are practically no lights and it is obvious that the cars are the kings of the road and not the pedestrians. I saw on Turkish television, while in Marmaris, two people get run over by a bus. The bus did not stop and just continued driving as if nothing happended!!

If you stay in a small hotel or B & B, beware if they have solar panels and tanks on the roofs.
Because electricity is so expensive there, they heat their hot water using the sun.
You'll need to time it right when taking a shower.
My husband and I had a down to a science and showered before we went out at night when the water had all day to heat up!

    ANIMALS

    by whitecliff62 Updated Jan 10, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There seemed to me to be rather a lot of stray cats and dogs roaming around the streets in Marmaris, it is best to leave these animals well alone, especially if they are not muzzled, rabies is still around in Turkey so do not attempt to stroke these animals, even if they are cute and cuddely like me hehehehehehe

    BEACH NEAR THE MARINA

Marmaris beach near the marina area is not good at all, it reminds me of builders gritt when you walk on the sand. Take my advice and head up coast a few miles where the sand is real and the sea is shallow and safe for the kids

    HEAT, HEAT, HEAT.

    by whitecliff62 Updated Jan 10, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you are thinking of going to Marmaris during the summer months, then take care from the extream heat, it can and probably will get up to 45 degrees which is hot, hot, hot, so keep yourself protected with a high factor sun block when you get there and gradually work your way down. There is a cooling breeze that gets up in the afternoons in Marmaris so you don't know that your burning untill its too late. Also drink plenty of water to avoid sun stroke.
