Han Ciragan is a restaurant set in an old han (caravanserai) in the center of Urgup. The restaurant has two levels of seating. The lower level, which includes a nice bar, has outdoor seating under a grape arbor as well as indoor seating. The upper level is open to the sky. The cuisine is traditional Turkish and we definitely enjoyed our meal. The clientele was a mix of tourists and locals. After our meal, we went downstairs to the bar, where we joined the locals watching the Olympics on TV. Everyone was very friendly and we had a very enjoyable evening.

Somine was our favorite restaurant in Urgup. It has a nice outdoor seating area that overlooks Urgup's Central Square. The food was very good, and the service was very friendly. The clientele was a mix of tourists and locals, including a couple tables of businessmen.
We had mezze and calimari for appetizers and then some very tasty kabob dishes for our main courses. Somine is a little pricier than some of the other restaurants in town, but the location, view, food, and service made it worthwhile. Two other couples that we met from our hotel also ate there and gave it rave reviews.

This place is also a hotel. There were some Spanish tourists having their lunch in this restaurant. We examined the options a little; this seemed like a good one. We were wondering how the pot kebab (testi kebabi or comlek kebabi) was. We ordered two pots for 4 person, some beer, salads… They brought a big hot pita and cheese as starter. Hot bread-cheese combination is something irresistible, so we were full with it when the kebab was ready to serve.
It was a ceremony to break the pot and pour the kebab to the plates over the flame. So, the tourists from other tables joined us watching it.
I must admit that I can cook something better with same stuff, but at least we tried. If you are more than 4 persons, order just 1 pot to taste the kebab.
Service is good enough and waiters were very kind here.
Favorite Dish: Hot pita, cheese, salad

You can find some typical dishes of the region in this restaurant. They serve pide (Turkish pizza) here and we desired to have a pide with a local chese called “comlek peyniri”. It is said that this restaurant was the locals’ choice. It is an important thing when you are trying to find a nice place to eat in a place which you do not know. Unfortunately I did not like the pide which I had here, because we had better in Derinkuyu.
Favorite Dish: We had pide but I did not like it at all.

After visiting Kaymakli Underground City, we were saying goodbye to our guide and the other people at the entrance. Before we left and drive for Derinkuyu, we wanted to learn if there is any good restaurants that we can taste pide. They recommended us Zeki’s restaurant in Derinkuyu. After a short drive we reached the small town and asked for the restaurant. Its location was very easy to find. We asked for “pide” (Turkish pizza) with local cheese, parsley and onion mix. They said that they did not have what we wanted but they could buy some cheese from market and prepare it for us. We ordered pide with cheese and with meat. After they had bought the cheese, they asked for recipe. We wanted some “ayran” (liquid and salty form of yogurt) as beverage and salad, too. Then pides came and… They were delicious!
This was the best meal we got in Cappadocia. I think their all dishes must be good, too. Ask for this restaurant if you find yourself hungry before or after visiting Derinkuyu.
Favorite Dish: Pide (Turkish pizza) with meat or cheese.

This restaurant was new in Urgup and they were photographing the place for a catalog and website while we were there.
We only had some wine and appetizers (mezes) since we were not hungry at all. Cappadocia region is famous with its wines and we hadn’t drunk any until that night.
We ordered a hot cheese plate, salad, baked mushrooms stuffed with cheese, etc. Some mezes did not satisfy me, but the hot cheeses were good, and a little bit strange.
Favorite Dish: Hot cheese plate
