Safranbolu

by Erkmen

Safranbolu a Historical town located near the north western coast of Anatolia, Some 395 Km to Istanbul.. The town is on the World heritage list of Unesco. Due to its well preserved old ottoman Houses..Safranbolu has hosted many civilisations including the Roman,ByzantineSelcuk and Ottoman Empires throughout its history. The city recieved its name from the saffron which is native in Safranbolu. The powder obtained from its flower is a very strong dye. Used in very small quantities, Saffron adds a delicate flavor, distinct aroma and a very unique color to deserts and other food..Travelling to Safranbolu is rather easy via tourism Companies in Istanbul Who are preparing Weekend tours.. The accomodations are done in those old traditoinal houses and its wonderful to stay with the history..

Ihlara Valley

by MalenaN

Ihlara Valley is a 10 km long gorge, southeast of Aksaray. The valley is full of rock cut churches, but only a dozen of them are open to the public. Several of them have well preserved old paintings. It is a green gorge with a stream, Melendiz Suyu, running along it. It is a nice place for trekking.

Selime Monastery

by MalenaN

North of Ihlara, cut in the rocks, is Selim Monastery. It is a complex with several rooms. The church has a gallery and you can climb some stairs to the upper gallery in one room. The rocks are more cone shaped here than in Göreme. Some people say that this place was used when making the Star Wars film, but it is not true.

Sirince

by Erkmen

Shirince (Sirince) is a very nice old town near Selcuk. If you plan to visit Ephesus, you need to pass from Selcuk and just spare some time to visit this old greek town.. This town is around 15 km from selcuk above a mountain top. There are minibuses leaving from the town center and also nowadays many tour operaters include sirince to their list.. The town has very nice vines, produced by the grapes of town.. And the housewifes living in the town are selling their home made tableclothes and such things. A lovely nice town, with a typical atmosphere of old aegean houses..

Arsameia

by MalenaN

Turn off the main road to Nemrut Dagi, and take the smaller road past Arsameia. Arsameia was the capital of Commogene, founded around 80 BC. Here you can see some steles and cave temples. In one of the temples there are stairs going down and down. I had no tourtch, it was dark, there was a lot of flies and easy to imagine there were a lot of unpeasant things down there. Well, I did not desend too far but in my book it says the stairs decends 158 meters trough the rocks to a room at the bottom.
