Evenings on the Yacht

by Weissdorn

Sitting outside on one of these yachts watching the stars come out, and hearing some relaxing music, while you share a bottle of wine with your friends is one of the most perfect ways to end the day. Suddenly it seems strange that you never miss television or your computer.

Making Discoveries

by Weissdorn

Making occasional discoveries such as this: Cleopatra's Bath House in a secluded bay is one of the treasures on such a sailing trip. This bay is in the middle of a natural reserve and can only be reached by a day's hike or by ship.

Friendships

by Weissdorn

The friendships that you make on board last much longer than anyone would expect, because being a crew is different than meeting people in a hotel on vacation. It like opening up your home to strangers who almost automatically become your friends.

Architectural wonder

by iandsmith

A bridge between two lives? And you said nothing would ever come between us!Imagine for one moment if you will, the background to this extraordinary piece of construction (refer meccano set, page 76, section B, subsection III) and dwell on how it was arrived at, who was responsible for putting it together and who paid for it.It's in the back streets of Sultanahmet heading towards the Sea of Marmaris.

Pierre Loti Cafe (Istanbul)

by SirRichard

Open 08.30-24.00 h. Tel: 0 212 581 26 96.In Eyup, following the 'Golden Horn' to the end, in the top of a hill, by the Eyup Cemetery. The taxis know it.The coffee house is named after the famous French writer Pierre Loti, who regarded Turkey as his adopted homeland, came frequently to this coffee house which in his day was known as Rabia Kadin Coffee House, and it is said that he wrote his novel Aziyade here. In the 19th century the coffee house was visited not only by Pierre Loti but by almost all the foreign travellers who came to Istanbul.Nice views of Istambul fron a quiet terrace. Try the 'apple tea'.

underground cities

by call_me_rhia

When you are in Cappadocia try to visit one of the many underground cities. They are complete cities that could host several thousands of people - they are also built several floors deep and linked by very narrow tunnels. Their purpose, obviously was defensive - and their organisation and structure quote amazing. You can find them at Kaymakli, Mazi, Derinkuyu and Özkonak. Provided you don`t suffer from claustrophobia it could be one of your highlights of Rurkey

goreme

by call_me_rhia

Goreme is in Cappadocia - a wonderful stunning corner of Cappadocia. There's a sort of historical park there with several buildings - churches and chapels especially - carved into bare volcanic rock on the face of the mountainsThe outer architecture is as stunning and the interior is stunning, too. Some of these churches have really nice old frescos

taurus mountains

by call_me_rhia

I just saw them in winter... driving by... and snowcapped: the Taurus Mountains - or, at least, I hope they are. I took this photo Ankara and Nevsehir, anyway.. so if someone can kindly confirm or correct me. Anyway the reason why you should see these mountains is that they are spectacular.. after hours and hours of endless flat scenery - here they are - majestic - scenic - out of nowhere. Such a refreshing sight!

My project at WFC

by bkathryn

This tip isn't about something that's "off the beaten path" in the usual sense, but more in a temporal sense... the reason I was in Antalya was for the World Forestry Congress, which was probably a one-time only deal. It was very interesting and quite fun! My project? It's about sustainable forest management.
