What to take to Turkey

by rachel_sun

Take a huge suitcase to get all your wondeful shopping in and a backpack to take on trips, for water ,loo roll ,camera and sunglasses. Take light clothing during the summer and waterproofs in the winter.Do take a good pair of walking shoes and an old pair of shoes for going in the sea. Film is expensive,so take plenty with you. Citizens of Uk,Ireland,Austria,Italy,Israel,Portugal and spain require a visa, which you get at the airport on your arrival in Turkey.Thet cost £10 in cash.Make sure you have a good £10 note handy.Australians,Canada,Germany,France and New Zealand get them free of charge. Take your 2pin travel adapter for 220v.Take a plug for the sink,as Turks dont use them.Do take a hat and coat hangers(hotels dont provide enough) and take a torch as streets are not well lit.The name for Pharmacy is ECZANE.

It is safe for women to travel alone in Turkey. You may get suggestions and leers from men,but it is no danger to you.I did and i just said im married and im now meeting someone.Crime is low, people are close knit and respectful and guests are treated very well. There is alittle crime in urban areas, but not more than anywhere.Istanbul has car crime and pickpockets.Just be sensible. The main danger is Diarroea,be careful what you eat and drink.Wash all fruit in bottled water and peel it.Make sure food is fresh and pipping hot.Freshly cooked food is the best.If you have stomoch upset longer than 24 hours ,seek medical help.Avoid heatstroke and alcohol.Do not burn and drink plenty of liquids(non alcoholic during the day).Drink 3 litres of water a day.Do not get bitten, put loads of mossie spray on.Make sure your injections are upto date.ONLY DRINK BOTTLED WATER

Eco-Tourism In remote places east of Istanbul Batteries, Photo-equipment and other things, we are used to buy everywhere, might be not available or maybe simply already on stock for years, as tourists come here eventually in summer, but never on a steady basis.

Visiting a mosque, a man is expected to wear long trousers and a shirt that preferably has long sleeves.A woman is expected to wear clothes that cover the legs and the arms and also a scarf to cover the head. All visitors of a mosque have to take off their shoes and put them on the shelfs at the entrance.

It is easy to over pack, I have done so practacly every time I visti. Remember that if you are planning on visiting a lot of different cities, your and you will be hauling your bags with you. Try to keep them as light as possible. If you end up buying too much you can easily buy another bag over there to take the stuff home in. Bring good walking shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking and standing in line. You want to wear something on your feet that is comforable. If you are going in the late summer or early fall be sure to bring at least one sweater, sometimes the morning or evening can be chilly. If you are going to the beach bring sandles or shoes you can wear in the water. Toliet paper! Take as much as you can. I have never seen a toliet, outside of my hotel room, that has any available. Remember you may get sick over there and that is not the time you want to be without any...

Turkey is so cheep so take a very large one. Make sure above all that your shoes are comfortable.Sandles, flip flops,or any beach shoes are a must because the sand is so hot in the afternoon. As for coats definitely a no no. The most important item you will need is a decent medical kit.Make sure it is well stocked for any eventuality.Essential items include....................PLASTERS/SUNBURN CREAM/LIP GLOSS(SORE LIPS)/HEADACHE TABLETS/TRAVELSICKNESS PILLS/DIORALIGHT PILLS(DIARRHOEA TABLETS)/MOSQUITO REPELANT/Oh and i nearly forgot a condom punture repare kit for those extreem emergences. Its a good idea to bring your own camera film and batteries.Turkey tends to be a little bit expensive on these items. I will skip on this subject as i know nothing about it.(give me a nice comfortable hotel bed any day). Try and get a plug in electrical mosquito repelent and plug it in before you go...

The best suitcase to take is one like a shopping trolley as most hotels have steps and this type is easier to get up and down them Take a light jumper for the kids as in the evening it can get a bit breezy. You'll need flat shoes as well, as Turkeys pavements resemble the moon surface! Always take medicine for upset stomachs that you know works for you.I always take Calpol for the kids as well. Remember to take your phone charger and an appropiate adapter! Make sure you take a t-shirt that will protect your shoulders when you go on a trip and dont forget good hats for the kids! Some items you cant buy in Turkey include orange squash, marmite, marmalade, chocolate spread, strawberry jam,and ribena.I always take these with me.

Dont bring to much luggage.A hard bag with lock is great to use both as safe, and easy to travel with if you want to bring home souveniers Sandals is great and the only thing I was abel to use.Bring minimum with pants and sweaters. You wont need it. If you are allergic to insects bring medicine. I forgot and had a hard time when I came home. Also Bring something against stomach problems..
