Most popular drink in Turkey is tea

I didn't try desserts because i was so full.You must try mushrooms baked in the oven with cheese and garlic(yummy).Raki is the national alcoholic drink.It is a grape brandy with an aniseed flavour.It is strong.There are two types of lager available,Efes Pilsen is The most popular drink of all in Turkey is Cay(tea) and this is what you will be offered in shops and by people who invite you to their homes.The food was great value,most nights we had a main meal with wine and bread for about £5 each.During the day,i had a glass of wine,stuffeb baked aubergine and bread for £3,great value....THE FOOD AT KALKAN WAS GREAT VALUE TOO.More stunning scenery

My guide on one of the trips i went on said rice is grown in Turkey,which surprised me.I enjoyed the swordfish which i had some evenings and the chicken kebabs were wondeful.Lamb is used alot for kebabs,with grren peppers,tomatoes,and onions.There are lots of fresh fruits available,like melon,apple,banana and oranges.I did like the Turkish pizza,which is known as pide and it is topped with cheese,herbs,spinich or goats milk. Me having a good meal at Kalkan in the Ottoman Restaurant.

There is a great restaurant at Kalkan harbour.Kebabs are popular and i loved the stuffed aubergines baked in the oven.Evening meals start with a selection of mezes(cold appetisers) which are bought to you on a big platter.You can have hot one's also.Fish is very popular here and salad and chicken and rice. Location: My fondest memory has to be the wondeful scenery and food and people.What i noticed was each night i went into the village,people got to know you and we got to know people.After a few nights,shop owners would call our names and say `hello,how are you today`?We would reconise them and say `fine thankyou`.I found that very nice and intimate.Turkish people will offer you endless cups of tea and personal hospitatily and even invite you into their homes.They regard us as their guests to their country.I found them very nice and genuine.They wanted to speak to us out of niceness and friendship(not because they wanted us to go into their shop,they are truly genuinly friendly.I felt so relaxed and at home in Turkey,that`s why im going back next year. All Turkish food is prepared from fresh ingredients. The country produces a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.Try the national drink 'raki' (an anisette), which clouds when water is added, giving the popular name of 'lion's milk'. Drinking of raki is a rite in itself, and it is tradionally accompanied by a variety of 'meze' (hors d'oeuvres). Try the Efes Pilsen !!!

Going to port and choosing a good quality restaurant is port is always a pleasure, like the Teresse Restaurant, here in Kalkan, near Fethiye. We perfer restaurants that specialize in local specialities, such as fresh fish. I particularily like Turkish Food, especially the appetizers, and Bulgar salad. The dish I ordered here was chicken in a walnut sauce. The sauce was so good, that I am still trying to find out what the ingredients were, so I can make it at home.

No, this is not in the Michelin guide to fine food but, if you're after a cheap feed you could do worse than to head to the main ferry terminal and there, on these wonderfully ornate fishing boats, you can purchase a fish sandwich for under $2 served to you by men in traditional costume - I loved it!

First Stop restaurant, on the sea front, is a good stop for entertainment as the staffs are fun and friendly. For value for money, and excellent food, go to the Harbour Restaurant and Café. For something different, try the Thai restaurant ‘Sandals’. Sandals is run by a Thai lady and her Turkish husband. Quite possibly some of the best Thai food I’ve tasted out of Thailand. A little more expensive than most restaurants, but worth a visit for the quality of food.

Along the main strip in Marmaris, there are litery hundreds of restaurants to choose from offering turkish and english cuisine. Helpings are huge in Marmaris and most restauarnts offered us a free drink and turkish bread (seen in photo) with our meals. The bread is huge, be careful not to stuff yourself before the main meal!The price, it was dirt cheap for 2 people, a main meal, a beer or glass of wine cost us approxmiantly 6 pounds, although this was a year ago and prices may have gone up slightly. Restauarnants have a wide variety and sell all meals and veggie menu's!
