The Fish District in Istanbul. Food is not great but the atmosphere is heavenly. Lots of fairy lights, activity, men, men, men. It's practically all the same wherever you go. Eggplant, lamb, fish. Food was disappointing, but atmosphere was great.
Humble fish restaurants located from Foça upwards to Ayvalýk, Çanakkale and the northern Aegean islands Bozcaada and Gökçeada. The fish seen on the photo is called 'barbun' a rare species now and often mixed with its untasty cousin 'tekir'. Rock 'barbun' must be accompanied with raký and 'çoban salat' under a daphne roofed dream restaurant located just on the beach under hot, hot aegean sun. Please tell me if you can find it... Barbun, raký, çoban salatasý, and a soft breeze from the sea.
It all depends where u go in Turkey. In Istanbul try the Dojo it is in SULTANAHMET. In Goerme, Cappadocia there are resturants everywhere cheap and cater for all. In Fethiye there are resturants situated everywhere but try the local ones rather then ones that cater for tourists cheaper and large size portions.The perks is that bread is so cheap that it comes free with your meal so if you're on a tight budget just order soup and eat as much bread as you want. Food is generally cheap and I gave it thumbs up everywhere I ate for Hygiene. All resturants have toilet and wash rooms. And you can be rest assured the food is not bad or will cause you problemDRINK BOTTLE WATER ONLY A MUST.Good staff service and although i was on a budget I did tip on the occassion. It's a long walk up a very steep hill and you sit out over the street. Everything, as after you have been in Turkey for a while, it is nice to eat some food that isn't Turkish just for a change, although I love Turkish food.
Nice and cheap restaurants are found all over. My favourites were the smaller, family-owned, not-for-tourists ones. Great, friendly atmosphere and lots of local, interesting stuff to eat!This is fish covered in cheese with vegetables on the side, served sizzling hot straight from the open-fire-oven!
The good thing about Kusadsi is that the boistrous noisy pubs are all kept together in the one place. Leaving you in peace to enjoy your meal. A lot of the restaraunts invite you into the kitchen to help you decide what to eat. Bizarre at first but really helpful, when you are unsure just reading the menu, then you can normally decide immediatly when you see something nice. Ghoulash
my favourite restaurant is in calis, The Anna restaurant situated on the front,run by Mehmet and his lovely wife Mandy,a true unhurried nights eating of the finest fresh cuisine anywhere.the ambiance,the welcome and not having to rush this is a splendid atmosphere on two levels upstairs and down stairs the choice is yours. fresh fish a wide selection on offer you must also enjoy the prawn cocktail starter,along with a real steak (im getting hungry thinking about this)
There are many nice Places in Istanbul. Most of then are again, in Taksim. There's Pizza Hut, McDonalds and some restaurants.The bigger restaurants are more expensive. If you don't mind eating Shawarma in a small place (which is absolutly fantastic), you'll easily find those places all around Turkey. As I said, the food is great and the prices are VERY CHIP!
Goreme, the Orient restaurent. The setting is fantasticn it's no more expensive than any other 'tourist' restaurent but you are treated like a real human being and the food is FANTASTICThis restaurant is really really civilised for the same prices as you usually pay in the overcrowded backpacker places. I think it must be the 'open-air' restaurant ,we found along the way, when we made a jeep-tour.Don't know where that was,but in the mountains we saw a 'sign' ,which told us that we could eat there.Complete different afmosphere, as the woman who owns the 'restaurant' has to do all by herself, and everything had to be done outside. Home made fried patatoes,veggies and a kind of 'shaslick' (small pieces of meat on a stick,with onions and peppers)
