Konak restaurant is on Isteklal street , on the left coming from Taksim square. The food is excellent and quite cheap. Quite clean facilities and the staff is very professional. The Kababs. I'd skip the " Mezza" dish which is house hospitality , though as it's quite spicy. If you'r into spicy food, go for it.
If you follow the Lonely planet guide for Istanbul, you may try kebab rollod on pistachio... it was so good. I call this kind of food : orgasmic food.if you are in group, you better book a place before going, cause it's always full.enjoy the view outside, with view over the Golden Horn and galata tower !!!
This is very famous kebap house in Adana.When you visit Adana please taste Adana Kebapand Salgam in this restaurant.The styl of the adana restaurant before your order (main course or starters what ever) they bring to your table fresh mint,parsley,onion salad (local style) and tortilla (lavash)thin flat bread.Also lemon .adn pickle green turkish jalepenos. My favorite dish is Adana kepab
If you miss the taste of coffee that is not turkish - Starbucks Coffee is the best option for you.Jazz music , comfort sofas and good coffee. I took a coffee called Frapuccino which was a cold ice coffee with cream on top.
Doner Kebap is like the national dish of Turkey (in Israel it is called Shawarma).This is a huge meat that is being roasted on a grill and the meaning of the word Doner is turning.There is also a chicken Kebap (Tavuk) which is very good too - i liked the chicken more.It should cost between 1YTL to 4 YTL (in restaurant for tourists they will take more of course). Chicken Kebap in a pide (Pita bread) with french fries.
Simit - Turkey's Cheapest fast food that you can find almost everywhere in the streets and even on ferries.You will see a street vendor that sells simit on a stand.Simit is kind of round bread with sesame seeds and one simit will cost you between 0.4YTL to 1YTL.
Tres is a restaurant on the Galata bridge with amazing view to Topkapi palace and the water.When we came to the bridge the waiter called us and gave us the card of the restaurant and we came to sit a few days later.The table was on the sea and it was very relaxing and atmospheric - especially the moon that was almost full and was orange.The food was good , i ordered meat Kebap that was good , very spicy (they gave it with spicy green pepper) , the french fries were good and the sallad was ok.My wife ate a fish and enjoyed it very much.The price was ok - 75 YTL for 4 Persons with 3 Fish dishes , big mixed sallad , my meat kebap , 4 diet coke , fruits , coffee and of course water and bread (you can see my warning and dengers tip about it). The Kebap was very good , spicy.
Beyaz balina (White Whale) is a restaurant in Kumkapi.We read about the restaurant in a book about Istanbul so we decided to go and enjoy.The good thing about the restaurant is the atmosphere of the place - street musicians , a lot of noise but in the good way.The service was bad , the food wasnt that good - they added more money and they didnt want to show us the menu , they didnt tell us that the bread and water is 12 YTL and we had to wait a lot for the food. I ate meat kebap that was avarage , only 6 small pieces of meat with a small portion of french fries and it cost me 15YTL !!!.
Around Kumkapi you will find a lot of restaurants.There is a street that is full with restaurants , the street is for pedestrians only , a lot of music , street musicians , very beautiful place to see in the night.
Some restaurant's can be very hot or not to nice so look around first.Your guide will bargain for a good price.At times we ate alfresco at restaurants or had a picnic.We would often choose where we ate as we did not wish toeat at the guides cousins place [I know suspicious tourists]Your guide has power to haggle as he is brinbging in 20 + peopleto eat at their place.At times we found some places were very hot inside or not to clean lookingand so would move on to another. Eat outdoors if you can !
