All Kinds of Activities in Turkey

by deecat

The competition that I saw the most of in Turkey was backgammon. There are tables outside all of the coffee houses and tea houses. Men are playing backgammon with unbelievable speed. I can still "hear" the clatter of dice hurtling across backgammon boards. During the winter, I was told that the cafes become backgammon halls.Perhaps the most popular sport in Turkey is soccer. I always saw children playing soccer. I also noted that all large cities had grand soccer stadiums. But one of the most comical sports that we were told about was camel wrestling. These matches take place along the Aegean coast south of Izmir during the months of December and January.Diving is also a popular [and well regulated] sport in Turkey.Paragliding takes place usually in the high Babadagi Mountain overlooking the beach at Olu DenizBallooning usually happens near CappadociaOf course, hiking and climbing are...

Cruiseing along the Alanya's coast

by deedee24

Alongshore cruise is an another way of spending time more actively in Alanya. The participants board a ship, sail along Alanya's coast and admire a view of XIII century fortress standing on a rocky hill visible at the seaside. The ship stops twice to let people swim in the sea and visit some caves. Crewmen make the participants feel relaxed and satisfied. The swimming costume can be necessary.

Row your boat down the stream

by deedee24

There are many possibilities of spending your time more actively than lieing on the beach and getting sunburnt. One of them is taking part in rafting, a very popular local attraction. It takes place in Taurus Mountains. At the start you are equipped with lifejacket, helmet and paddles, then you get in potnoon and row about 12 km down the river (I think they called it Koprulu but I'm not sure). It's a great adventure. If you're in Turkey, do not miss it. Just take a good humor.

Rafting

by MalenaN

Going rafting is a fun thing to do. From Antalya many tour companies have daily rafting tours. The rafting is done in the national park Köprülü Canyon and it starts by an old Ottoman bridge. You will not be alone as many tours are also organised from Side and Alanya. I went with Mevlana tours in Antalya (run by a very nice couple). In the morning everyone was picked up at their hotel and then the minibus left for Köprülü Canyon. After arriving we had to wait but finally got helmets and lifejackets. Before going down the river in the boats everyone got the opportunity to throw oneself from a rope into the freezing water. And cold it was! It took some hours to reach the final destination and we made some stops along the way, one for lunch. At some points we jumped from the boats, but did not stay long in the water because it was so cold. The price for the day can differ depending on...

Tubing in the Medditerranean

by hasthetravelbug

When on the boat cruise from Antalya to Fethiye, we stopped at a few random places and random boats will come up and try to sell services or food. One of the boats was a speed boat so we decided to go tubing! You can waterski or wakeboard but the equipment was weak. It was fun and definately recommend it to everyone! You bathing suit..... They provide the lifejacket and tube...

Sailing Paradise

by Erkmen

Sailing in Turkey will allow you to experience a truly enriching cultural exchange with the hospitable and gracious people of the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds which generally blow from the west and north-west make the long summers ideal for yachting, and seem to encourage an appreciation of nature. From some of the turquoise coasts unspoilt and sheltered bays you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3,000 meters above sea level.Turkeys modern facilities and comfort have not overshadowed her ancient hospitality and slower pace of life. The pleasure of yachting in Turkey will tempt you back again and again, to explore yet another stretch of coast and to relive the luxurious ease of life on the sea. Some Major Yacht harbours in Turkey are as follows..Atakoy, Kalamis - Istanbul (2)ÇanakkaleAyvalikOld FocaCesmeKusadasiBodrumDatcaMarmarisFethiyeGöcekKashKemerAntalya..

Scubadiving in Kas

by MalenaN

Kas is said to have the best diving in Turkey. Well, it is not the Red Sea but have some nice divingspots. I only made three dives and saw trumpetfishes, big groupers, tubeworms, fire worms cucumbers etc. There were also some broken amphoras and caves. I dived with Mavi diving which is a German divingcentre with mostley German divers. Once a week they make daytrips, otherwise one dive in the morning and one again in the afternoon. Their boat is very well equiped. Once a week they also make a BBQ for divers.

Parasailing

by Erkmen

Parasailing is also a popular sport on the coastes of Turkey.. Almost all holiday villages and main hotels has parasailing activity available during summer..Parasail is a parachute attached to some moving transportation medium like a motorboat. The Parachute goes up in the air when the transport medium gets moving and the person attached with it takes three or four quick steps and then in the air. The sheer joy of soaring in the sky hundreds of feet above and not much need of training has made this game immensely popularJust watch out your hotels activity list, may be parasailing is also listed.. And enjoy the joy of flying..
