    Pide or Kebab

by maykal Updated Dec 13, 2003

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Just off Ataturk Alani, on Uzak Sokagi, is the Cardak Pide Salonu, which serves the best pideler you can imagine (Pide is the Turkish version of pizza, either with cheese or meat). On Ataturk Alani, there are several kebab places to eat, all of them very similar, and the roads off this square are also full of restaurants, including the fantastically named 'Kebabistan'!

    Guven Pastahanesi: Pastries and Trekking!

by suvanki Updated Nov 28, 2007

This establishment was opposite my hotel (Erzerum Oteli) and I wanted to visit it since reading about it in my LP guide.(1990 edtn) The blurb read- ' You can get a good breakfast and, later in the day, excellent pastries and puddings. The place has nice touches, such as embroidered Turkish cloth on the glass topped tables. The proprietor Mr Gunduz Akay, can also lead you on a trek to Camlihemsin in the Kackar mountains where there are hot springs, lots of wildlife and beautiful mountain scenery. Gunduz Bey speaks German and Turkish'

Well, I met the proprietor, a nice humble man, who was very proud to have been featured in LP, he had a folder of cuttings/letters etc. I spent quite a while here chatting. I'm afraid I didn't have the time to go on one of his treks.

This place isn't mentioned in the 2005 guide, so it may no longer exist, but if You're in Trabzon I'd try and find out!

Favorite Dish: I enjoyed a coffee and pastry as well as a cold rice pudding, then purchased some sweets and chocolates.

Kebap ve Yemek Lokantasi: Local Kebab Lokanta

by suvanki Updated Jan 24, 2008
    Ataturk Statue, Trabzon

Ataturk Alani was lined with similar establishments, but I chose this place because it looked clean, and there were families eating here, and I needed to 'escape' from the 'hassling Trabzon men' (see my introduction to Trabzon)

This was 1993, and the place warranted a mention in the 1990 LP guide, it doesn't feature in the 2005 guide, so either it is no longer here, it's under a different name, it's closed, or it's grim!

Initially, I didn't get a good welcome, single female, dyed red hair!! but once they realised I wasn't 'a Natasha', I was very well looked after. In fact, the staff became very protective towards me, especially when I returned the next night.

Favorite Dish: Pide, hot and tasty!
