Bus vs. Train in Turkey

by JJfromNJ

Turkey has one of the best bus networks in the world. They're all ultra modern, comfortable, and reliable. Take advantage of them -- especially overnight buses -- and buy an inflatable pillow. In general, I don't really know the costs as compared to trains, but I'm pretty sure the one time I compared it, the bus was cheaper.I did take trains for some longer distances (e.g. Kayseri to Ankara, and Ankara to Istanbul) but don't really remember if it was because of the cost or it was the only option. I think it's best to just feel it out specifically each time once you're over there.Enjoy your trip. Turkey is a great country to travel.

BEWARE TAXI DRIVERS IN BELEK, ANTALYA

by lifepro

Belek Antalya is upscale tourist zone with some of the best hotels. Consequently best location for taxi drivers trying to hustle and rip off the tourists. They will give you wrong fixed tarif, they will turn on 'night rate 'g the day , they will not return your change back if you do not give them exact amount, and if you object to any one of these they will yell, screem , and be aggressive towards you so that you will be happy to be alive !! Unfortunately therte is no place to complain and there is no control mechanism. This is why they are so free to be like they are. Use hotel service as much as possible. Inquire about loal bus service . Walk if you can. But never take a taxi. If you have to talk with the hotel desk and find out the exact fare and prepare the exact change and before get on any taxi give the license plate number to someone who can monitor your trip.

Drive Your Own

by ant1606

Driving in Turkey can take you from the horrible urban traffic jams in Istanbul to deserted roads in remote areas of this large country.Aboard the 1986 mighty "Moskvich 2140" I had the pleasure to sample pretty high road standards on the occasion of the long journey across Turkey in September 2008.A rental car vs. public transportation may prove inconvenient even for 4 cost-sharing occupants.Driving your own you'll be independent at a cost. Fuel prices are higher than anywhere in Europe, expect to pay the equivalent of US$ 11+ per gallon. Make sure to refuel often, not only because there aren't many gas stations in scarcely populated areas, but also because some of these are out of fuel. I found this a common occurrence and opting to refuel even when just at half-tank level proved to be a wise decision.

Traveling by bus

by Nenek

INTER-CITY Bus transport in Turkey is very good and prices are acceptable. Buses are new and very comfortable. Small snacks, refreshing drinks, coffee and tea are served in bus and that is includeed in a price. All companies are good. There are cheaper and a bit more expensive companies, but difference in price is rarely more than 5 euro. Some of bus companies in Turkey: Varan and Ulusoy (more expensive ones), Kamil Koc, Metro, Pamukkale (cheaper one).

Excelent buses in Turkey - RAHAT

by Nenek

Traveling by bus in Turkey is very easy, cheap and comfortable. Even "regular" intercity buses are really good, clean and comfortable, serving drinks and snacks. These Rahat buses (Kamil Koc company) are even more comfortable. Movies, music and computer use (you can plug in your notebook) are availabe during traveling.

Istanbul to Kayseri..

by Durfun

One must visit Cappadocia to admire the 'fairy chimneys'. A most interesting, yet unusual natural phenomenon.Fly via Pegusus Air. They have some cool deals from 16UKP per person including all fees & taxes.. Journey time is 1.15 hours. However, it's a good 1.25 hours by road to Goreme. Best to arrange this part of the journey via your hotel, costs 10EUR per person

Istanbul - International Bus Terminal

by ant1606

Büyük Istanbul Otogari - or simply Büyük Otogar - is the main bus terminal in Istanbul. Located some 10 Km northwest of the Sultanahmet city center district, this large and extremely busy location was chosen as our overnight place in town during the course of the 2008 Caucasian Challenge Rally. One of the reasons for selection was the guarded parking lot where the loud attire of all the race vehicles could survive untouched. Personally, I'd suggest accommodation here only if strategically related to travel plans. Don't expect to find too clean and quiet bedrooms unless you're prepared for high rates. To reach the Sultanahmet district, from the center of the Otogar courtyard take the metro to Aksaray end station then walk through a passage and bridge to the tram line. Take this to Kabatas direction and get off after 4 or 5 stops. Or, step down earlier and walk along the tracks to check the...

Camel riding in Antalya

by hopang

This is camel riding other than in the desert! You can take a camel ride while you are having a vacation in Antalya. The interesting camel ride is located on a vacant land on the right hand side of Sultan Bazaar Shopping Center in Kundu mainly for foreign tourists who want to experience the thrill of riding a camel. Kundu is located approximately 15 kilometers southeast of the city of Antalya. Lots of five stars international hotels are located in this area. The ride takes approximately ten minutes around the shopping center and costs just five euros per person. We certainly enjoyed the ride which is a wonderful experience!

By tram in Antalya

by hopang

Trams in Antalya run on a single track or line. There are only two trams passing at a short length on double track at Kalekapisi. One way fare is YTL 1.00 per adult. Travelling by trams in Antalya is inexpensive and is a wonderful and perfect way to see the city of Antalya as the tram passes many major tourist attractions along the way. The tram is certainly comfortable and runs on a half hourly intervals from both ends between 7.00 a.m. and 9.00 p.m. daily. The trams stop at the following stops:- Antalya Museum, Barbaros, Meslek Lisesi, Selekler Shopping Center, Kalekapisi, Uckapilar, Belediye, Isiklar, Cender and Zerdalilik. In a way the trams themselves are interesting tourist attractions as they are very colourful and look wonderful! Locals like to sit by the side of the tram line to look at tram passing by as depicted in our photograph above!

Turkish Bus Travel

by JJfromNJ

To answer your questions about the bus, they're actually not that bad. My only issue with them is you can only recline your seat back a certain amount. Other than that, it's usually pretty quiet as most people go to sleep, and they turn all the lights off. Invest in one of those $10 inflatable travel pillows, maybe some earplugs if you want, and you're golden.
