disappointed with MY TURKEY TOURS

by janeklein

We researched a number of companies and chose MY TURKEY TOURS for our one week private tour last September. This is the letter I wrote on our return, to the agent I worked with:RE: MY TURKEY TOURSWe have worked with many tour companies in the 50+ countries we have visited over the years. There have been some small problems and misunderstandings along the way, but never as many as we experienced with you. It is interesting that there was no email or phone call following our return home to inquire about our experience and to ask about our level of satisfaction. We expressed our concerns on our last morning in Istanbul and asked what might be done to compensate us. Nothing was or has been offered. Below are several emails sent back and forth before our departure, and my notes re the problems we had. We would appreciate your consideration and a response which we will then post to Virtual...

Driving around Turkey

by mikelisaanna

Driving around Turkey is the best way to see the country. However, you must keep in mind a few things:1. Turkish drivers are aggressive. Turkish pedestrians are, too. Both groups take much more risk than we are used to in the USA (except New York City and Boston). 2. Cars and trucks share Turkish roads with mopeds, scooters, a wide variety of farm equipment, and horse-drawn wagons. Many imes we had to slow down from 100+ km/hr to 20 km/hr after coming around a curve and encoutering a much slower-moving vehicle. Also beware of slow-moving trucks. Turkey has a lot of older trucks that, when fully-loaded (or overloaded), can barely make it up the hills. You often get stuck doing less than 20 km/hr for a minute or two until you can pass them. 3. Gasoline and diesel fuel are very expensive due to high fuel taxes. Turkey has the highest fuel prices of any major European country. When we were...

Internal flights in Turkey

by Brazilianerin

Hi,TAM is indeed the most important airline company in Brazil, and I am sure it does not go to Antalya.I have recently bought an air ticket with TAM (and Lufthansa) from Brazil to Istanbul and I checked the possibility of a connecting price to Capadocia. The price would simply double.I hope that helps,Brazilianerin

Renting a car in Turkey

by Tuna_ank

I found many pages about it. There are many more. So you don't care, you may easily rent a car in big cities.http://www.avis.com.tr/english/index.htmlhttp://209.85.129.132/search?q=cache:8ineYx38mmAJ:www.rentacarturkey.com/+rent+a+car%2BTurkey&hl=tr&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=trhttp://www.turtasrent.com/eng/defeng.asphttp://209.85.129.132/search?q=cache:PHlRPJz8Rc8J:www.propercar.com/+rent+a+car%2BTurkey&hl=tr&ct=clnk&cd=7&gl=trhttp://www.auto-europe.co.uk/http://www.yesnational.com/english/default.asphttp://www.boldrentacar.com/english.html

Turkish state railways

by Tuna_ank

Turkish railways are not fast. Between Istanbul-Ankara-izmir there are comfortable trains. For other places I am not sure...Main site: http://www.tcdd.gov.tr/English: http://www.tcdd.gov.tr/tcdding/index.htmOnline ticket sale: https://etcdd.tcdd.gov.tr/tcddrezwebapproot/ilkneteng.jspIn Istanbul there are 2 main train station. Beautiful Haydarpasa at Anatolian side and Sirkeci at European side. In Ankara there is a nice museum at train station. You may also see Atatürk's house. He stayed for a while in that house.

Travelling between Istanbul and Ankara

by profannie

I lived in Ankara for one year and I used all the kind of transportations to get to and from Istanbul. The best method to travel depend a lots of your planning and the purpose of your trip.-Flight is fast, but you need to arrive in advance at the airport. The airport in Ankara is far from the center of the town (about 45-50 minutes), so at all, I founded the plane more time consuming than bus. But if you are anyway arriving by plane in Istanbul and you want to get to Ankara the same day, than it can be an option to consider.-Bus is good because you are departing and arriving from the city center. But it will take in average 6 hours (the express bus company who are doing it in 5 hours are hard to find in the gigantic bus terminal; tickets are not cheap and the departure are not at each hour). I took the bus several times, but I found it boring. It was good for me when I needed to travel...

Flying can save you time

by Snipernurse

Flying around Turkey is easy, relatively cheap, safer than long distance trains and buses and saves lots of time. Look into it. I took a couple of domestic flights in Turkey, was really happy with the flight, and with all the time I saved.

Public transport

by Clarchika

Bicycles are indangered spiece in Istanbul even though they have cyclers rode! It is just something that doesnt fit in the traffic there! Istanbul is one of the countries with mad traffic. But the city has very well taken care of public transport, you can use buses, trams, even sth like undergrownd funicular! and of course ferry to cross Bosphorus or ship for getting to islands around. Taxi's are bit expencier but at night when buses stop driving it is useful. It is better to take big taxi for more poeple so the price is lower.
