I found it hard to pack for

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Clothing was what worried me for going to Abu Dhabi as I knew certain parts of the UAE are very conservative. Don't wear hot pants, it won't be appreciated at all. I wore shorts that were just above the knee and got a lot of unwanted attention from men. Very few actually say anything, some make a sort of... wolf whistle equivalent though. Men & women should avoid skimpy clothes. Women should make sure their bums & thighs are covered and don't have too much cleavage going on!

They rely on air conditioning (especially in the super hot summer months) so bring a few cardigans to wear... I found myself wearing them where I was staying because the air con was cold. I wish I brought more with me but I felt silly bringing them to a hot country.

Photo Equipment: In summer it's very very hot and when you go outside, your camera lens will steam up. Give it 20 mins or so to get used to the temperature otherwise you'll get rubbish photos!

Miscellaneous: Bring earplugs for sleeping. A call to prayer song is broadcast over the whole city at various times throughout the day or night. I was wakened around 4am one morning by it and couldn't get back to sleep for ages. My earplugs had fallen out. It also gets bright very early (in summer anyway!) so bring a sleepmask if this is likely to waken you.

Handkerchief or some cloth

Miscellaneous: If you are in Abu Dhabi during summer or season transition, keep a handkerchief handy. Strong winds blowing sand would be quite common and sandstorm is a nightmare. Having a handkerchief or cloth at least helps you to filter out the sand from entering your nose or mouth.

Skin Moisturizer

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Was here for about 3 weeks since late January. The humidity at this time is very low sometimes as low as below 40%. My skin became quite dry and was beginning to crack. Good idea to have a skin moisturizer to keep the skin moist and healthy. Otherwise, your body will feel uncomfortable and itchy all the time.

Jacket

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Be sure to bring along a jacket and some warm clothing if you are visiting around Jan/Feb. Weather is quite cool - day time temp >20degC with the night temp coming down to 16degC. Wouldn't feel that cold except that the wind is really strong and chilling. Bring along a cap too... coz it's quite sunny in the day time.

Miscellaneous: Some lip balm or moisturizer would be good. Weather is really dry here.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: sandals, light runners, sun hat, sunglasses

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: sunscreen and a lot of it

Photo Equipment: bright sun every day-lots of glare

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: yes, you can camp with your own tent or you can go on a "safari"with a group and the tour company will put you up in a bedouin tent .
there are only a couple of beaches left that are free. women get stared at alot here,no doubt about it. you can wear a bikini but be prepared for drooling men around you. option2 is to go to a hotel where there are mostly tourists- there will be a charge though to get in unless you are staying at that hotel.

Miscellaneous: this is a moslem country so as a visitor please be respectful of the local people's culture and dress appropriately. for women -cover your upper arms at least, loose clothing, not revealing or form-fitting while shopping or sightseeing. no shorts or tank tops. this goes for men too. (at your hotel swimming pool or at the beach it's ok, though).

Pack light

Miscellaneous: Pack light and do all of your laundry and dry cleaning at Black & White, 02-44-66-010. Did two weeks of stinking clothes and paid less than $75. At any of my hotels, would have been well over $200.
