Taxis moving around abu dhabi will never reach more than 10 dhs.
You can stop a cab at any Bus stop/ Parking on the road side. Note that eventhough taxis will stop if you hail them anywhere on the road, you will get in trouble/ they willg et fined, if they stop anywhere else, but at the appropriate stops.

Taxi is very cheap so you can go everywhere, but sometimes taxi drivers don't understand english so they just drive and don't go where you want....they drive as lunatics as well as all the drivers in town.
As a pedestrian watch them cause they don't care about you!!!!

When travelling around Abu Dhabi I tend to walk the streets to catch a cab, (Grab the Gold and white cabs).
Try to avoid Gazzelle cabs as these are far more expensive then the ones that you pick up on the streets and seem to be available outside all the hotels. Further more the higher the star your hotel the more expensive your fare will be. This advise was given to me by a local.

Al Ghazal Express is a new taxi service launched recently. The initial fare in a private taxi starts from Dh2, charging 50 fails for each kilometer traveled. The Al Gazelle Express, however, does offer a competitive fare structure, starting with just Dh2 and Dh1 per kilometer thereafter, during the day. Between the hours of midnight and 6am, the fare shoots up with Dh4 being the initial charge and Dh1 per kilometer thereafter. Currently they are using new Toyota Camry vehicles. The service mainly available by call. However, sometimes you may find it in the front of some places like Abu Dhabi Co-Op or hotels.

I like this airport although it's crowded but when you are getting bored waiting for the flight, you can sit there and look people walking around you, they are people from typical gulf region, long white cloth covering whole body, I even saw a woman covering herself from head to feet with black cloth, worse than those in Afghenistan, they also cover their eyes! Yet I guess it's not polite if I try to take a pic of her! That's obvious!

The airport is 35 kilometres (22 miles) east of central Abu Dhabi and about 35 minutes drive. If travelling by taxi, confirm the fare with the driver before the journey. All major, as well as local self-drive hire companies, have offices at the airport and some also provide a chauffeur service

I didn't notice any sign of public transport in Abu Dhabi. Maybe because everyone has a car. We used a taxi. It's cheap and you always pay by the meter. Very convenient and fast.
