This is a well organized museum. The exhibits are labeled in Arabic and English. There are few halls. One is for the period before 3000 BC; another one is for the period 1300 to 3000 BC and a third hall for 600 AD to 1300 BC. Very worth vesiting. Admission is covered under the general ticket that purchase to see most all SHarjah museums

Both facilities located within the heritage area, near the second gate and Bait Al-Naboodah. Nothing special to see but @ the National theater there is a nice place to sit if you happen to visit in the summer or the heat is unbearable for you. Directions: Located within the heritage area. local at "Old sharjah sites" tips

the Oldest school in Sharjah. Few Basic class rooms with some of tools used for education. Old pictures are there. It is interesting to now that both boys and girls studied together.

mosque by xaver It was opened on 1987, the building cost was fully paid by the inheritors of King Faisal Bin Abdel Aziz AI -Soud. It is located at AI Soor area, at the middle of Sharjah town and bounded by the Islamic Souk, Khalid lake and AI Ithad Garden. The building is composed of many stories: the ground floor and the first floor are allotted to the men's mosque. The second floor is converted to be Sharjah Endowments Department which contains the offices plus a general library containing the important publications issued in the fields of Islamic history and thoughts in addition to the modern books of Hadith, Sharia and Riligidn Basis plus the scientific, literacy and cultural books which amounts to about (7000) books. The basement is allotted to be as the women's mosque with a special library. Leave a Comment Directions: just opposite to the souk

"Somewhere, beyond the sea..." (Sharjah, UAE) by JessH, 4 more photos On a lazy Saturday in summer we decided to go and have a look at the recently opened Sharjah Aquarium. It is located down by the "corniche" waterfront, not too far from the famous Al Qasba and "Eye of the emirates." At the time of our visit (September 2008) construction was still ongoing on a neighbouring building, and we noticed that some of the displays were still lacking detailed information boards, etc. Surely, given another few months, the centre will be 100% operational and completed. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed our visit and the layout of the museum is well-designed. A path leads you through different displays, and eventually also through the eagerly-awaited underwater tunnels... I find there is hardly anything more beautiful on this earth than looking up and seeing Stingrays gently "flying" above you head, their mouths appearing to have an eternal smile on their lips ;-) They have over 250 different species on display, most of which can be found in the Gulf waters & the Indian ocean (surrounding the UAE). Entrance fees are extremely reasonable and it also wasn't too crowded, yet (I can imagine that in the future, most weekends may be filled with school classes and families with children). After your visit, it's nice to take a stroll along the water front outside the museum. The museum can't quite keep up with the standard of some similar centres that I've visited in the UK and in Europe, but it's a great start and a good effort by the authorities. I'd definitely recommend the Sharjah Aquarium to anyone with interest in marine life and I'm looking forward to visiting again in the future. There are parking spaces, elevators and rest-rooms with wheel chair access. NOTE: Please show some consideration and do NOT use a flash whilst taking pictures. This startles the fish and causes them unnecessary stress. There was a sign at the entrance stating that anyone caught using flash will have their camera confiscated until they leave the museum. But alas, as this is the UAE, there once again weren't enough security guards in the building to actually stop people from using their flash, much to my annoyance & dismay. --> For more photos, click here: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/a43fc/#TL Opening hours: Sun - Tues: Closed. Just by looking at the gigantic wheel hovering above us makes our knees start to wobble. But it's something that we got to do. So we waited till it started operating at 730 pm. Once inside, we instantly felt safe because each cabin is fully-airconditioned and fully-enclosed with tempered glass. We felt even more hi-techie as there are several buttons, each with a specific purpose, that are quite within our reach: - the emergency button (maybe to stop for barfing) - the aircon button (maybe to help us breathe when the air pressure is way too high) - the light button (maybe to achieve that dramatic effect when we're taking photos) - the eject button (which we did not dare touch) We estimated the total diameter at maybe 50 to 60 meters -- just by basing it on a few 10 to 15-storey buildings surrounding the big wheel. It's an amazing, slow, vertigo-inducing six-round ride which allowed us to see Qanat Al Qasba in all its night splendor. So i must say that the "Eye of the Emirates" is a must-do when in Sharjah. And hey, the above-mentioned buttons were left untouched because with the spectacular bird's eyeview of Sharjah by night, vertigos were completely forgotten.
