union monument by call_me_rhia The union monument is a monument dedicated to the "union" of the seven sovreign emirates into a the United Arab Emirates. The most prominent part os the central pillar, but what symbolizes this union is at its base: the sculpures of seven oysters with a pearl inside. Each oyster represent an emirate, and it was chosen because, traditionally (meaning: pre-oil), it used to be the area's main "business". The union is symbolized by the golden crown at the top of the pillar. Leave a Comment Address: union squareDirections: next to the king faisal mosque and across the road from the blue souq

The famous and historic Sharjah Cricket Stadium by pakistanibrain, 1 more photos This is the stadium that has hosted more One Day International games than any other cricket stadium in the world. Historic moments like Javed Miandad's six against India have happened on this ground. Now it's mostly left vacant as it doesn't meet the international standards for an ODI stadium anymore. There are still some events and small matches going on there every now and then but without the ODI money it is in danger of falling into ruins. If you're interested in Cricket history you would still want to visit it though. Directions: Close to University Road

Not far from the hostel or the center of town are some nice stretches of beach. Since they tend to back up to the port you want to move a bit east prior to jumping in the water. It is a great place to come out and relax for a bit. Leave a Comment Address: SharjahDirections: The coast
