Take a ride on the Eye of the Emirates to get a view of the Corniche and other parts of the city. Ticket charge is 20 Dhs for adults which gets you about 6 minutes on the wheel. The area also has restaurants and cafes as well as a small fairground area.

The union monument is a monument dedicated to the "union" of the seven sovreign emirates into a the United Arab Emirates. The most prominent part os the central pillar, but what symbolizes this union is at its base: the sculpures of seven oysters with a pearl inside.

Each oyster represent an emirate, and it was chosen because, traditionally (meaning: pre-oil), it used to be the area's main "business". The union is symbolized by the golden crown at the top of the pillar.

While we were there, a Chinese Lantern festival was going on.The entire corniche area was covered with beautiful red lanterns - it was a pretty sight! They even had a DJ playing music as part of the festivities.I was informed that they host diff festivals and even put up a calendar of the events.Check if out, something might interest you.

This is the stadium that has hosted more One Day International games than any other cricket stadium in the world. Historic moments like Javed Miandad's six against India have happened on this ground.

Now it's mostly left vacant as it doesn't meet the international standards for an ODI stadium anymore. There are still some events and small matches going on there every now and then but without the ODI money it is in danger of falling into ruins.

If you're interested in Cricket history you would still want to visit it though.

Arabia's Wildlife Centre is full of live animals from the Arabian Peninsula. See the rodents, reptiles, spiders and birds housed in clean and well looked after enclosures. No photos allowed here but cameras can be left at reception. After the centre, see the Children's Farm next door which houses camels, geese, goats, donkeys and cows. Kids can take donkey rides here and pet some of the animals. Entry for both is included on the park ticket (see Natural History Museum details) and opening hours are the same.

Not far from the hostel or the center of town are some nice stretches of beach. Since they tend to back up to the port you want to move a bit east prior to jumping in the water. It is a great place to come out and relax for a bit.
