 | Dubai General Tips | Tips 121 - 130 of 137 | | Popular General Tips | Other General Tips Tips | All Tips (137) The business district, and more precisely the buildings on Sheik Zayed road, are a heaven for modern architecture... You can find glittering skyscrapers with character, and the famous emirates towers. It's an area that's growing... everywhere you can see cranes and new skyscrapers in the making - each more opulent and flashy than the other. Most with helicopter pad... There are parks and gardens, too... and zillions of interesting restaurants.
The emirates towers are just so spectacular - even more when viewed from right outside. But what I like best is that it's an area that is changing - and changing fast. On my Dubai return vist, just under 2 years later, it had really altered... Look out for the arch... doesn't it look like the defense arch in Paris? Leave a Comment

Dubai always seems to be playing catch-up to the world's biggest cities. Bigger, better, faster, higher. Never mind that it's probably left most of its mentor cities in the dust when it comes to sheer pace of development. But it's a constant endeavour anyway - world's tallest skyscraper, world's largest man-made islands, world's highest flag pole. Yalla! This tendency is on full view at Sheikh Zayed Road, the city's prominent street. Adorned by towering buildings on either side, SZ Road is a page straight out New York's Manhattan chapter. Residential addresses, a clutch of 5-star hotels, business towers all jostle for space alongside immaculately sculpted lawns and a crazier-than-hell 8-lane highway. There's a lot of nightlife on offer amidst all the multinational offices, setting up a work to play ethic. Almost all of Dubai seems to converge in the mother-of-all traffic jams here nightly between 6-8. Time enough for you to get out of your cab, grab a couple of drinks, and crash back into the passenger seat - having missed not a thing. Leave a Comment

Dubai and the UAE are places "under construction". Gigantic advertising pannels are showing you that everywhere.

but pleasure for which I will return! I enjoyed my short time in Dubai. After wandering through the Spice Souq, Gold Souq and textile souqs I fell in love with the textiles most of all.
I went to a textile shop called Royal Crown and hand drew a top I wanted and picked the material. They called the tailor, he came measured me and in less than 48 hours I had personally designed top (MY CREATION!!). I also had a Indian style tunic and pants made out of some fabulous fabric I choose. All this for $200 CDN!!! Next time I go, I will make sure to have an empty suitcase!
