 | Dubai General Tips | Tips 41 - 50 of 137 | | Popular General Tips | Other General Tips Tips | All Tips (137) Local people in Dubai seem to be extremely nice and friendly. And I really mean that! We were taken by their hospitality and authentic interest in our country, religion, customs, etc… Our hosts were also very keen on sharing the knowledge about their country with us. We were lucky to be invited to the desert picnic with locals. We eat lamb in the tent (using nothing but our hands) and had coffee and deserts under the night sky full of stars. It was one of those moments that I’ll never forget. Thank you! Leave a Comment

This is an extremely brand-obsessed city. But you probably already knew that. Any place touting itself as the 'City of Gold' can't really be too shy about wearing its materialistic heart on its sleeve, now can it? From clothes to cars to mobile phones to what school you want to be sending your kids to - the 'Name' is the end-all and be-all driving factor behind most things. This branded tunnel-vision is probably most responsible for enveloping the city in a surreal Disneyland-meets-Las Vegas type bubble, where superficiality reigns supreme - a double layer of cream atop the stunningly assembled, saccharine sweet cake. It can all start to get real tedious real quick, so always have an escape route at the ready. Like with most good things, you need to dig beneath the glittering surface to encounter the city's far more interesting stories and characters. I'd draw you a map, but this is one trip you probably need to be taking on your own... :) Leave a Comment

don't forget to have some "shisha" ("hooka", "waterpipe", "argile"), in one of the little cafes along the Dubai creek, or in Deira... take a fragrant persian tea with iranian or turkish sweets....you will definitely enjoy the sunset and the twilight , having a light relaxing smoke, whatching crowds of seagals flying around, ancient boats from unknown countries and local "abras"(boats) crossing the Dubai Creek transporting people from one side of Dubai Creek to another.... : ) Leave a Comment

Dubai has some wonderful internet cafes. Their per hour rates range from AED 2 to 30. Most of the good cafes charge AED 5 per hour. Each computer has attached scanner, printer and webcam. Some cafes also have snacks and juices facility available. Some of shopping malls such as City Centre, Bur Juman and Lamcy Plaza etc. also have internet cafes. Charges in these cafes are usually more than the normal rates. I paid AED 25 for one hour internet usage in cafe located in City Centre.
The best part is the great browsing and uploading speed available in Dubai. I really enjoyed using Internet in Dubai for the same reason. Leave a Comment

One of the must see activity which i would strongly recommend you is desert safari. It is an experience of the life time. It would be expensive trip but its value for money. There are usually full day and half day desert safari trips arrannged by many tour operators. These are usually conducted in air conditioned 4 wheel drive jeeps. During desert safari you would get a chance to see camels and take their photos. You can enjoy sunset in desert and take photos. Similarly you would enjoy belly dances, drinks and barbeque. There are many tour operators of desert safari. Just ask your hotel reception and they would arrange it for you. One of the very famous tour operator is "Arabian Adventure" http://www.arabian-adventures.com which is an Emirates group company. They are very expensive but their service is also very impressive. During November 2003 they were charging AED 275 ( $ 75 appox) for half day desert safari. Please note that desert safari is not offered in extreme temperatures of summer. So ideal time to enjoy desert safari is during winter season. Also keep in mind that it would be a bumpy ride because there is no straight road in desert.
I wanted to take desert safari trips offered by tour operators in Dubai but my friends in Sharjah offered me free desert ride on their 4 wheel jeeps. So we ten guys went for desert safari in two jeeps and it was wonderful experience. The best part was to see camels in the desert. Leave a Comment

Dubai is home of the most amazing modern and futuristic architecture one could ever imagine... it's as if a magical world would poen up in front of you and you really feel like Alice in Wonderland. I'm normally not a fan of this type of architecture, but Dubai, somehow, has stolen my heart.
Some unforgettable architectural sights are inside some of the larger shopping centres... my very favourite being the bur juman... amazing architecture, mostly not on the tacky side (read: mercato, wafi city) Leave a Comment
