Sunset on the Creek by bzh Looking at the sun set over the creek, a cool glass in hand, from the bar of the yacht club is definitely one of my best memories of Dubai. On the skyline, the most obvious landmark are the Emirates Towers, on the left hand side. Leave a Comment

UnitedArabEmiratesFlag by xuessium The flag contains colours usually associated with the Islamic world. The flag consists of three equally sized horizontal stripes with a red vertical stripe on the left side of the flag. The horizontal stripes are from top to bottom, green, white and black. It is believed to be based on the Arab Revolt Flag which was created in 1916, and flown by Arab nationalists during their liberation struggle against Ottoman (Turkish) rule. Red, white, black and green are called the pan-Arab colors and have been historically linked to the Arab people and Islamic faith for centuries. They stand for Arab unity and independence and can be seen in the flags of many countries in the region.
The UAE was created when seven "Sheikdoms" (the rulers of the 7 entities are "Sheikhs", rather than "Emirs" despite the country's name) in the middle-east joined to form one country on 2 Dec 1971. They were formerly called "The Trucial States". The 7 entities are: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah & Umm al-Qaiwain. Abu Dhabi is the biggest of the 7 "Emirates" and by default, its ruler is the President of the country. Dubai, rich from commercial wealth, holds the Prime Minister post. All the rulers rule the country through a ruler council. Leave a Comment

Dubai Transit VISA for those who don’t get it on arrival for free. Thanks every one for keep helping by reading and replying. Here with I am writing my own Experience. As soon you land at Dubai International Airport (Terminal 3) which exclusively serves Emirates, Proceed to Arrival hall using escalators or lift/sky train to come down. Go to Emirates help desk (the left most counter while facing the desks) though Marhaba is also there but they can’t give VISA so if you go to Marhaba they will tell you the cheap rates but still you will require to seek permission from Emirates desk to get the VISA so better choose emirates. Emirates will give you Hotel + 96Hr VISA (Visa will be valid till 96Hr and hotel you can choose between 24 or 48 or 96Hr and pay accordingly for the hotel). I went to Dubai on 23February2009. I asked them if they could give only VISA since I had a friend in Dubai but they refused. Emirates Help Desk; Go to the corner counter on your left. Show you passport and onward journey ticket. For example “your ticket must only be” London-Dubai-Singapore and “must not be” like London-Dubai-London. Means your final destination must be other than Dubai and port of boarding and your next flight from Dubai must be after 8 hr then only you are eligible to get the VISA. I paid USD300 & they returned some AED200. (US$ 1 = AED 3.67 as of 23rd February 2009). I opted for 48hr stay. On doing this they will give you a booklet in which you have your hotel details plus one slip which you show at “Dubai Bank” counter just next aside to this counter. Pay AED50 at this counter. You get two or three slips; collect them all; proceed to immigration counter; after clearing; go to luggage collecting belt; respective to your flight if you are to. Come out and proceed to your left. Before you reach to Exit gate number 1 or 2, look opposite to these gate and locate “Dubai Adventures”. Go to this counter. Show the booklet given by emirates. Person will arrange for Taxi for you to go to hotel. Please ensure not to choose Gulf Pearl Hotel in Deira. It’s worst Hotel I ever have seen during my travels to various countries so far. You can get free VISA only if Emirates have a condition where you “HAVE TO” stay more than 8Hr in Dubai i.e. by default you get free VISA when you are forced to stay more than 8Hr in Dubai by your airline & in rest of the cases/conditions you will require to buy VISA unless you fall under such nationalities who don’t require to buy VISA such as US citizens. In case you are not using Emirates Airlines so you might be landing at Terminal 1; you should see “Marhaba services”. They will provide all the assistance you need including VISA & Hotel Accommodation. Rest of the condition will remain same as of Termial3. Thanks, Leave a Comment

Dubai has no culture and character. Arabs make up only 20% of the population and you will hardly see or interact with them. They hide behind tall compound walls in their mansions. The taxi drivers are all Pakistanis and Bangladeshis, the hotels and businesses are run by Indians. These are people who are not allowed to bring their families to stay with them even if they have been working there for 20-30 years. The permits to bring families are dictated by how much you earn. Low wage earners are denied the right to be with families. They have an option of bringing them to visit at their expense for 3 months in a year but not more than that. There is nowhere to see the local culture except in a make believe area at the museum. The Arabs otherwise like to ape the west and everything else is geared to that. However they do things backwards! They built big big buildings but not enough roads to accommodate the traffic. Traffic jams are a nightmare in this man made make believe city. There is construction everywhere. They are building more tall buildings, roads and elevated rail lines, there is chaos everywhere. Hyped for tax free shopping, the prices are the same as in Australia and US and more than what you pay in Thailand or Singapore etc. Even that will stop as they introduce VAT from next year. The climate is VERY VERY HOT & HUMID. One wonders what is there to see or do in Dubai. NOT WORTH VISITING!!!!
The sunglasses and camera lenses fogging up due to the heat and humidity! The pictures come out all hazy.

Hi All Thanks for your answer. I did try to search the info online, to no avail. But I went to Glasgow airport yesterday to fetch a friend, and take the opp. to ask the Emirates desk re T3. The lady said that there are walkways from T3 to T1 so we just simply walk through it..How far..I dont know..but certainly they should be well connected. I have e-mailed the Dubai airport cust service but yet to reply. Will let others know once I got the info. Thanks again Leave a Comment
