by JessH The original "Lodge" (so I'm told) was always a real Dubai institution amongst the Western expatriate crowd: large, unspectacular, slightly grubby with dark wood and sticky carpet, but a relaxed & fun atmosphere that was a regular haunt on many weekends. Unfortunately it closed just a few months before I moved to Dubai (rumour has it that they tried to organise an "unofficial" gay-night... which of course is illegal in the UAE.) In 2006 "the Lodge" made its comeback, and my friends that still remember the "old glory days" dragged me along into their revived memories of fake IDs, teenage romance & curfews. But it seemed that the venue's old flair was no longer attracting as many patrons as it used to: the city had moved on. Everything is fancy and modern. And our expectations have risen. So once again it closed for a few months for renovations and with much hype and anticipation re-opened as CHI @ the Lodge in 2007. This large venue consists of 4 separate clubs/bars/lounges and a fantastic outdoor dance floor and seating area. The interior design is modern & funky, the DJs are younger, and the weekly events are more prestigious than ever. This, of course, has driven prices up: a simply Vodka mixer will cost you a hefty 45 Dirhams! That's steep even by Dubai standards. But beer remains affordable at 24 Dirhams a bottle. If you are planning a special evening with a group of friends, consider booking a table including a few bottles from the bar... price is approx. 3,000 Dirhams! ( 1 US$ = 3.67 Dhs)
Luckily the club also stages some special offers on certain nights, including the fact that ladies do NOT have to pay an entrance fee as long as we arrive before midnight. And on various other evenings ladies also receive some free drinks. There is also a Happy Hour (waiting for updates on their website). We recently went to CHI for their birthday celebrations: "Cheese" with Dubai's very own 70s & 80s-addict DJ Timmy Cheddar. The club was packed, everyone was having a whale of a time, and we were drenched in sweat by the time we went home. But don't be mistaken: this isn't purely an 80s club - every night sees different DJs with different music styles (Persian Night, RnB Night, etc.) UPDATE October 2007: CHI Gardens are now open.... so now that the weather is all cool & gorgeous, that's where you'll find me... See you there! :-) Opening Hours: Daily from 08:00pm - 03:00am. Dress Code: Smart-Casual (no sandals, no shorts) TIP: Make sure you get down early as the queues can be horrendous. Long's Bar in early evening by Rinjani Great place to drink after work. As it’s name, The Long has a long bar with its lay back atmosphere. You will love this place. Long’s Bar also has dance floor and it’s quite full of people in Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Fancy a crowd? Come after nine in the evening. Ladies Night is usually on Wednesday Night.

Zinc, Crowne Plaza by Rinjani Zinc is located in Crowne Plaza, Sheikh Zayed Road. The club reaches its peak crowd at Thursday night. The layout of Zinc is divided into three, Bar, eating place (also couch where you can hang around with friends) and dance floor. They usually have a great band every Thursday and the songs will make you go to the dance floor immediately. Usually the band starts at 10 PM. At Thursday night, unfortunately guys…..you can’t enter Zinc as a single guy. You need to be a couple. If you can manage to get a girl who wants to be five minute girlfriend until the entrance door, it should be all right. Otherwise, you have to pay cover charge.

by Rinjani A cozy bar located in Regent Hotel, Bur Dubai. Great live music, great crowd and great food and drinks!! A choice for young people to spend their weekend night, dancing, karaoke, enjoy the drinks in the bar, playing pools or munching chicken Shawarma. They also offer ladies night for almost every night. A recommend place to visit for clubbing lovers. Bar, restaurant and nightclub: the cattle market where everyone always ends up at weekends for a Bullfrog or two. In-house schwarma joint for the munchies, karaoke on a Friday.

by Quero The best feature of the restaurant of the Yacht Club, which is open to the public, is the al-fresco terrace overlooking Dubai Creek. The food is pretty good, too. Keep in mind that what locals consider local food generally consists of highly-seasoned Indian-style dishes. Alcoholic beverages are served at this restaurant as well.
This is an upscale place, but people were dressed fairly casually. Of course you should wear a proper shirt and trousers--shorts and revealing attire should be avoided, even in the hottest of seasons. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: North side of Dubai Creek

Entertainment Planner Dubai by Ali&Steve This is not a review of a particular place, just a link to Time Out Dubai's web pages. Use it to plan your entertainment programme. It has restaurant reviews, names and addresses of night clubs, sports activities. Having a Time Out magazine puts Dubai somewhere up closer to London, New York, Paris, etc. Perhaps, think of it as Amsterdam without the drugs, historic buildings, canals, and rain! Leave a Comment

Just what Dubai needs. ANOTHER hot 'n sticky whore of a boozer. With all the standard fillings like a faux Brit-pub look 'n feel. And 2 floors of packed-to-the-sardines like debauchery. In all fairness to Double Decker, it's thankfully short on pouty frills and such. And when a nice song does manage to leave the DJ's deck, the whole place can pack in quite a decent little frenzied punch. There are your standard public attention-grabbing theme nights - free champagne for the girls, longest happy hour, etc. And a fantastically good value Friday brunch which can really leave you dozed for whatever follows in the evening. Guess I've just grown out of these sweaty, floor-pumping joints. Packed to the seams with the usual suspects, out on their standard Friday night crawl. I'd much rather be someplace intimate, with music that can actually strike a chord. But if you like your nights a bit flashy & throbbing and you happen to land up at the right moment, DD could be a lot of fun. Roll the dice on this one. It's all very 1001 Arabian Nights, but in a disarmingly non-tacky, charming way. The Shisha Courtyard draws you in with its lilting atmosphere, pulls you in further with its Arabian-dream flourishes, and then makes sure you won't be leaving for atleast a while with its comfy couches scattered within cozy billowing tents. Mezze and hummous are by-the-book, but the delicious lamb and grilled meat tawooks are a notch above the usual fare. All to be washed down with some finely authentic Moroccan tea, and then made to linger with shishas which you'll truly savour... Rose-el-Fakheri, The Mirage special, and the usual mint - apple suspects. The wailing Arabic singing can start to grate just a bit, but never to the detriment of the blissful setting all around. English tunes from the Rooftop above sometimes waft down to form an amusing fusion with the Arabic chanting. Wrapped in the special hug of a lovely winter's night outside, you just might be to too charmed out to even notice... With my friend on the sofa at Vintage, Wafi, Dubai by JessH, 4 more photos Vintage is a cheese-lovers' & wine-connoisseurs' dream. I'm not a big wine-connoisseur, therefore I hadn't returned to Vintage for quite a few years. But after winning a gift voucher in a radio contest a friend and I decided to have a girly-evening and enjoy our freebie treat! Despite the exclusive wine list (over 120 varieties) Vintage feels more like a friendly bistro than a snooty lounge: it's a small place with a few tall tables & some sofas. Capacity is approx. 50 people. Cheese, salmon, foie gras (morally, I think one should never order this), tempura prawns, caviar, freshly baked breads, fondue (blue cheese, traditional cheese or chocolate): this isn't a place to have a full dinner, but the various tid-bits from their menu with nevertheless leave you more than satisfied. We sank into a low sofa, enjoyed listening to the tunes of Ella Fitzgerald & Frank Sinatra and then tucked into the baked, oozing, honey-drizzled chunk of melted camembert. Oh... my... god: this must be what heaven tastes like! This is definitely more than enough for 2 people to share, priced at 69 Dirhams. In comparison, the vintage cheese platter with a selection (of your choice) of 5 small chunks of cheese, some grapes & walnuts priced at 99 Dirhams seems quite expensive & unnecessary in my opinion. We had selected Wensleydale with cranberries, Chaumes, Celtic pride (a sharp, hard cheese), Pont-l'Evêque and my new favourite: the Italian, fantastically creamy Taleggio. We also enjoyed a 3-piece portion of prawn tempura (28 Dhs) with wonderful sweet chilly sauce. Although delicious, I couldn't help feeling that they seemed a little out of place in this wine bar, but we enjoyed them nonetheless.
Dress Code is Smart-Casual. A glass of wine costs between 34 and 48 Dirhams, and bottle prices start at 170 Dhs per bottle, all the way up to 14,000 Dirhams (!) And if you're not a wine drinker, beer and regular spirits are also available here. --> Special "Wine flights" promotions are available to provide timid tipplers with ample opportunity to sample 3 wines for the price of 1. The service here is impeccable and unusually professional for the normally pathetic & sub-standard waiting staff in Dubai's numerous 5 star hotels. The waitresses were able to recommend a nice rose wine, letting us taste 2 varieties before we made our choice. Throughout the evening, they were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. This is a place that will definitely keep you craving for more return visits! Fridays & Mondays: Enjoy Traditional Blue or Cheese Fondue for 2 and a bottle of house Red or White for only Dhs 185 per couple. NOTE: smoking *is* permitted here. --> UPDATE 2nd visit: The ham & salami platter is large & our boys really enjoyed it! The dark chocolate fondue is great for sharing. Opening Hours:Fri - Wed 06.00pm-01.00am. Thursdays 04.00pm-02.00am. Happy Hours: 06–08pm on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday only. Leave a Comment
