Ppl waiting for the 4x4 vehicles for sand bashing
    3 more images

While most people told me to choose any company since they are all the same, I now know better. I chose Arabian Adventures and regretted. It was chaotic and we did not get much while there were many other tours which offered a better deal.
You are entitled to be picked up and dropped at your hotel or your chosen destination; one welcome drink and unlimited water and beverages cold and hot ( non alcoholic) , a big buffet spread and free camel rides and photo opportunities, you also get a henna tattoo done for free on one hand, and sheesha smoking,
You also get to see tandoora dances, fire dances, magic shows and belly dancing.
Before you reach the desert safari dance venue , you ride through sand dunes and the vehicles with deflated tyres take you on a real roller coaster like ride across the sand dunes which is quite exciting if you like that sort of thrill.
The desert safari trips normally pick you up at 3 and drop you back by 9 pm. It costs anywhere between 150 to 115 dirhams/ person.

    Tanoura Show

by machomikemd Written Jul 25, 2013
    4 more images

The Tanoura Show is imported from egypt and is usually performed by Egyptian Sufi Muslims and the Tanoura is similar to the Whirling Sufi Dervishes of Turkey but the difference is that the Tanoura Performers wear colorful clothing and skirts, instead of the white ones used by the Turkish Sufi Performers. Tanoura Shows are common in egypt and are also becoming popular in Dubai as the Desert Safari Tours and the Dhow Dinner Cruise Shows have the tanoura show, which lasts for 15 to 20 minutes, of which the Dervishes whirl around with their colorful skirts and at the same time carry different objects while whirling. for a more detailed appreciation, please watch my tanoura videos.

Desert Safari Adventure: ATV & Go Kart Racing

At the various Desert Safari Camps run by the various tour operators, there are other activties that you can do besides what is listed on your brochure, like All Terrain Vehicle Riding or Go Kart Racing. But these activities are not free and you need to pay to use them. a 15 minute ride at the Go Kart in a improvised race track along the sand dunes with used rubber tires as barriers will cost AED 40. If you are willing to spend money, then try it as the experience of the open racing among the sand dunes, with wind rushing on your face is priceless!

    Desert Safari Adventure: Sand Boarding

One of the activities that you can do at the Desert Camp of the Desert Safari Adventure in Dubai is Sand Boarding. The camp provides free sand boards for guest who want to experience sand boarding among the sand dunes in Sharjah Emirate and the experience would be great. but the sand dunes here are not as tall as the sand dunes in other desert areas like sand boarding in australian desert or the Sahara Desert in Africa, but still is worth the experience, moreso if you have not been to these areas with tall sand dunes.

    Desert Safari Adventure: Desert Camp

After the 1 hour desert safari along the sand dunes of hatta, your tour group will then proceed to your designated desert safari camp in a 30 minute drive from hatta to somewhere along the desert of Sharjah Emirate. There are many desert safari camps here, oprerated by different tour companies and in the desert safari camp are a myriad of activities (I will have separate tips for it) like camel riding, ATV riding, Go Kart Riding, Water Pipe Smoking, Sand Boarding, the Arabian Barbecue Buffet and the Tanoura show and Belly Dancing show, to name a few.

The Start of the Desert Safari begins after the deflating of the tires of the Toyota Land Cruiser or H2 Hummers from 30 PSI to 20 PSI as to make the tire get more traction to the sand dunes. The Desert Safari Proper is about 1 hour of criss crossing along the san dunes of hatta and the hajar mountains and you would again cross the boundary into oman a few times as the sand dunes lie just a the border of UAE and Oman. there will be 3 pit stops of 5 minutes each so you can walk among the sand dunes and then 3 15 minute trek of the group of vehicles up and down the sand dunes and if you have motion sickness, you might get dizzy of the twists and turns of the vehicles as they climb up and down the sand dunes.

desert safari finishes at 9:00 to 9:30 pm and the drive to the hotels is just 15 to 20 minutes as the desert camp is near than the desert safari.

Desert Safari Adventure: Drive To Hatta via OMAN

by machomikemd Updated Jul 25, 2013

approaching the omani border, change of road name
    4 more images

Once You are picked up by your Land Cruiser or Hummer, the Drive to Hatta from Dubai City takes about 1 hour as it is about 105 kilometers from Dubai International Airport. Hatta is still part of the Emirate of Dubai and lies across the Border in Oman and YOU ACTUALLY Cross INTO OMAN on the Way to Hatta as a 20 kilometer stretch of the E44 road becomes the 5 road as you cross into oman and then after 20 kilometers, cross back to Dubai and the road becomes E44 again. There are no border markings or immigration post a the omani side of the desert road. You will just see the boundary of the UAE and Oman via google maps. after one hour you stop at the Mezereh Public Market and then off to the Sand Dunes of Hatta.

No Matter what tour company you booked the Desert Safari, The Land Cruisers or Hummers will be the one to pick you up and drop you off your hotel before and after the desert safari and there are at least 5 to 7 persons in the vehicles allowed. Pick Up Time will be from 3:00 pm o 3:30 pm on hotels or hotel apartments which are near each other. They will wait for 5 minutes and if you are not present, they will leave you, so be sure to tell the reception in the hotel lobby to notify you if the desert safai guide is already at your hotel as the guides first goes to the reception area.

desert safari finishes at 9:00 to 9:30 pm and the drive to the hotels is just 15 to 20 minutes as the desert camp is near than the desert safari.

If you've been to other areas in the middle east with arid desert areas like Jordan, Egypt, Oman, Syria. etc they also offer desert safari adventure like the one here in Dubai but the major difference is that here in dubai, you have a lot of choices for your desert safari tour. examples will be like choosing whether using a Toyota 4x4 Land Cruiser as the ride or the H2 Hummer Vehicle. Choosing the morning safari, afternoon safari, everning safari or overnight safari is another choice. Plus going to the tour company's desert camp is included and there are lots of activities to do in the Desert Camps of various Tour Companies of which I will have separate tips, like sand boarding, camel riding, henna tattoo, ATV riding, go kart riding, waterpipe (shisha) smoking, dressing like a local, belly dancing and the traditional Arabian Barbecue Buffet.

There are tons of tour companies to choose from and remember that riding a H2 Hummer is much more expensive than riding a Toyota Landcruiser as average Afternoon Desert Safari Packages will cost from AED 100 to AED 130 for Toyota Landcruiser and AED 180 to 220 for the Hummer (including the most activities in the desert camp and the dinner buffet).

    Shisha Smoking at Desert Camp

by machomikemd Written Jul 22, 2013
    the shisha water pipe
    4 more images

After the Desert Safari In Hatta, you will be brought by the Toyota Landcruisers or the H2 Hummers to their corresponding desert camps in the Deserts of Sharjah and there you will stay for 2 hours to enjoy a lot of activities and the desert buffet dinner included in the meal.

If you don't want to pay just to have a try on the famous Water Pipe Smoking (Shisha or Hookah), then this is you opportunity to smoke for free as it is inlcuded in the package and the nicotine falvors include bubble gum, apple, peach, orange, mint and other flavored shisha nicotine containers that they put on top of the water pipe.

The Shisha was invented in the 12th century they say. Here in Dubai and in the Arab World, people smoke waterpipe as part of their culture and traditions. Social smoking is done with a single or double hose hookah, and sometimes even triple or quadruple hose hookahs in the forms of parties or small get-togethers are used. When the smoker is finished, either the hose is placed back on the table signifying that it is available, or it is handed from one user to the next, folded back on itself so that the mouthpiece is not pointing at the recipient.

The "Desert Safari" is a "must" in Dubai in which u have adventure with the 4x4's ...

There are many different organizations and travel agencies arranging, u can also do that w the front desk of ur Hotel . If u r a group, sure u wanna get a lesser price ...

The program usually starts about 15:00pm, till about 22:00pm. In case u start up from ur Hotel, u will be picked up from ur Hotel and also check w some other Hotels for the other passengers joining the tour and then meet in the desert . As u leave the highway and be at the meeting point, the tyres will be flattened for a more convinient ride on the sand ....

He he, I suggest u to have ur lunch in earlier times or maybe not a all, couse it will be a real bumpy ride w the 4x4's up and down the sand hills, sothat ur stomach might be upside down, so, skipping ur lunch before the safari is mostly suggested ... :)

After about one hour ride, there is a short stop of all vehicles as sun goes down and people are given about 15 mins time for photo shootings .... Then ride goes on to the huge tent area where all get together for the dinner ....

Here on my "Travelogue" you can see more photos of this great adventure ... :
    Travelogue

There u can have camel riding, buggy riding, sand surfing, picture taking with traditional arabic dresses etc ... Those are charged extra, not free ....

Then buffet dinner will be served, with a lot of meats, rice, fresh fruits, desserts etc while afterwards you can watch the "Belly Dancing" show ...

Here you can watch my "Belly Dancing Show" Video ... :
    Belly Dancing Show Video

As the show ends, as said u will be taken back to ur Hotel at about 22:00pm, but this time with the highway, not on bumpy desert ... :)

4x4 Toyota's drive up and down on the dunes. At the end you have a traditional feast sitting on carpets watching a belly dancer or you can go and have very basic (and I mean basic) Camel ride.
The food's OK and everything runs like clockwork. The sand is really reddish close up and very very fine. Try not to go on a windy day.
