In 2006 after a break of a year I went back to Dubai.I found so much new development, among them the new Marina, an artificial area linked to the sea. There are new hotels [The Dorchester] , high rise buildings, restaurants , and the day we went it was crowded with people strolling around buy the water; looking at the boats or sitting drinking coffee. Children were on scooters and skateboards or running in and out of the fountains.
Dubai Marina is one of the newer projects in Dubai. It is a self sufficient city, built by the beach, with hotels, residential towers, recreation, shops and restaurants. The focal point of this area is a man-made marina which cuts off part of this neighbourhood into an artificial island. Around the marina is a beautiful area with many shops and restaurants and it has become a popular hangout place, especially at night. Dubai Marina is one of the zones in Dubai where foreigners can own property, so it is popular with expats and foreign investors. Those who have lived here have had to endure a couple of years of construction, though fortunately, most of it is near completion. Dubai Marina has some of Dubai's best resort hotels, such as Royal Mirage, Grosvenor House, and the Ritz Carlton.
You can get to the Dubai Marina by taking the metro to Dubai Marina station or Jumeirah Towers Station. We got off at Dubai Marina and took the feeder bus to the Marina Walkway. This was good for taking photos but very hot and with little shade. We then walked down to the sea next to the Hilton Hotel. There was a public beach next to this hotel with beautiful white sand and clear blue sea. Very very hot though. Had a look in the Hilton and noticed it is possible to use their pool and beach facilities for the day for a fee.
There is also a Marina Mall but we did not visit it. There are many restaurants on the walkway near the Hilton.
its a very nice place, over a yacht port, surrounding with the most beautiful towers in Dubai,, you will find diffrent kinds of restuarants and coffees there serving you, they have an open area where u can enjoy the sun or the fresh air at night, & a very nice musical fountain where your kids can play with, a calm place where you can relax there... note: i've been there on feb so the weather was wonderfull, but now (starting from march till dec i think its very hot there, anyway you can be indoor and u'll enjoy too :)
The cheapest, safest, comfortable way to explore the famous Dubai Marina canal is to take the RTA water bus for AED 2/-(less than 0.5 USD)!! The trip water bus route connects the Dubai Marina mall and Marina walk within few minutes!
It is nice to stroll around in the Dubai Marina district. There are lots of restaurants, cafes, shops and a great atmosphere, and you can easily walk from the Marina to the beach.
