Sheikh Zayed Road is a main street in Dubai. The road is quite long and it also connects Dubai to Abu Dhabi.
Along the Sheikh Zayed Road, the high rise buildings are built. The buildings are mainly offices, apartments, shops, cafes and restaurants. The future highest building in the world, Burj Dubai, will be build in this area. At night, the street is beautiful. You can enjoy the beautiful light along the street.
We passed along the Sheikh Zayed Road several times while making a trip to Dubai. E11 is among 5 main Dubai routes. It is known as "Sheikh Zayed Road". The highway runs parallel to the coastline from Trade Centre Roundabout to the border with the emirate of Abu Dhabi, 55 kilometres.
The Sheikh Zayed Road is home to most of Dubai's skyscrapers, including the Emirates Towers and the Burj Dubai. The road will soon have most of the Red Line of Dubai Metro running alongside it.

The main throughfare connecting downtown Dubai with Dubai Marina and further to Abu Dhabi is called Sheikh Zayed Road. About 10 minutes from downtown Dubai lies a cluster of skyscrapers that house shopping centres, hotels, restaurants, offices and residences. Famous landmarks in this area include Emirates Towers, DIFC (Dubai International Financial Centre), Shangri-La and Dusit Hotels, and the list keeps growing. The latest landmark in the making is Burj Dubai, expected to be the highest building in the world.
If you don’thate modern architecture, take a walk along Sheikh Zayed Road, the road leading from Dubai westwards to Abu Dhabi. Here, you’ll find most of the famous skyscrapers of Dubai. If you find some picture of this street in the 1990s and compare it to today’s sight, you will not believe how quick these buidlings have grown in the sand. Sheikh Zayed Road is surely not a pure business district, although many big companies have their offices in one of the skayscrapers. Many restaurants, hotels and shopping malls are found here too. People from the nearby living areas, businesspeople and tourists make it a liveyly place day and night. Something I would really recommend is to end your day with a walk along this road. You’ll see all the illuminated buildings, making you feel like a dwarf walking through a neon-illuminated forest of high trees. Take a dinner at one fo the restaurants and watch the traffic and the people at Sheikh Zayed Road late in the evening. And know you are part of modern day Dubai for a few moments.
For some information about the skyscrapers at or near Sheikh Zayed Road, please have a look at my respective travellogue of my Dubai page.
It essentially runs from Abu Dhabi to Dubai (some 120 kms), but it is the last few kilometres of Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai that are of major interest. It is here, a few kms south of Dubai Creek, that the majority of the new skyscrapers of Dubai are to be found, built in a cluster around Burj Khalifa.
The road itself is six lanes in each direction, with the new Metro red Line running through its centre, and, as one would expect as a centre of finance and business, not only are the buildings offices, but also hotels and, to a lesser extent, apartments.
With the hotels, there are also a number of restaurants (including western chains such as Pizza Hut) lining Sheikh Zayed Road and Etihad has its Dubai check-in at the Chelsea Tower Suites building.
On the outside, this building is one of the interesting examples of Arabic architecture, and Islamic art. It is located in Dubai Creek and showcases the history and development of Dubai.
The Maktoum family members btw are founders of Dubai, current rulers, and architects of modern Dubai.
