Ski Dubai was a funny discovery : 22 500 square meters of snow inside a shopping mall - The Mall of the Emirates!
You can rent everything you need inside. There are 5 ski-runs that vary in difficulty, height and gradient. The longest run is 400 meters.
The temperature inside is between - 1, - 2 C.
Head away from the beach in the heat of the day around noon and hit the slopes at Mall of the Emirates when they are at their quietest. You don't need to bring anything other than your hat and a pair of gloves, the rest comes included in your ski pass. Ski Dubai has 5 slopes that vary in difficulty, height and steepness, the longest run being 400 meters with a fall of over 60 meters. Ski Dubai has the world’s first indoor black run. Skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels will enjoy the various slopes and snowboarders can also practice their stunts on the 90-metre long quarter pipe. Kids and parents alike will have fun in the huge interactive Snow Park, which at 3000 square meters is the largest indoor snow park in the world. Information on opening times, prices etc is on the skidubai website, but is often out of date or inaccurate so best to give them a call before heading over. If you can avoid the evenings (4pm onwards) and Fridays and Saturdays you will have much more space and room to ski as the slopes will be much quieter.
You've heard about it, IT'S REAL! The indoor ski slope in Dubai. A crazy idea that has been successfully implemented. Worth going to the Mall of the Emirates to check it out. No need to ski there if you've tried the Alps or the Rockies, but it is great for beginners and for staying in shape.
Equipment and clothing are provided with the ski pass, except for gloves and hats. Bring your own, or buy them at the onsite ski shop. You can get a pass for 2 hours, or an entire day.
Update: In October 2008, I finally entered the ski slope and did a couple of runs. It is quite the experience, especially coming from outdoors where the temperature was about 34C! The snow, as expected, feels icy and manmade and the runs are too short. However, it is definitely a good experience that could keep you in shape.
They have EVERYTHING in Dubai, so why not skiing? It's the "Coolest Thing in Dubai," and Yes, it's in the middle of the desert! Located at the Kempinski hotel, in the Emirates Mall, they have Ski Dubai. Don't worry if you didn't bring your gear -- You can rent everything there! There are 5 different runs for varied levels of skiers and snowboarders. There are also two cafes with great views of the slopes if you just want to watch. It's a cool place to go!
Ofcourse going there only to ski is a madness but being there for 2 days I wanted to see how it is :P There is one lift that takes you to the top (of the building) where you choose one of the 2 slopes to get down.In the middle of the way up with the lift you can get off if you are a beginer. There are also baby lifts and space where first time skiers and snowboarders take lessons. If you get bored or cold (!) you can have a hot chocolate/coffee inside the chalets :)
Before you go there make sure to have gloves and a hat otherwise you have to buy from the shops inside the mall. The rest (uniforms, socks, skiis) you rent them there.A 2hrs ski pass costs about 28euros its the shortest card you can have and believe you dont need more :)
Located in the Mall of Emirates is a most unusual attraction for a city located in the desert - an indoor ski slope! Ski Dubai, as it is known, is the first indoor ski field in the Middle East. It looks a bit like a movie set, and is a very popular tourist attraction for the city.
You can ski, snowboard and toboggan here. Besides the standard level ski slope, there is a beginners slope (with lessons mandatory for first timers), play areas for the kids, an area for snowboarders, and even the world's first indoor 'black' run for the serious skiers.
We didn't actually ski, but spent some time at a café overlooking the very real looking slope, watching beginners learning the basics, and thankful that the thick pane of glass separated us from the icy snow field conditions.
**Make sure you have a look at Photo 3 where you can see the outside of the snow slope in the distance**
In Mall of the Emirates they have one of those crazy things that can come out of having soooo much oil money....A skislope in the middle of the desert! This is defintely a "must try" thing - it is rather cheap and the equipment you can rent is absolutely ok. 2 hours costs around 30€ incl. equipment. I tried it and it was a laugh.
Very timely to do since you will really sweat like a pig while you're in Dubai (except of course during winter season). Fee is around 80 AED for one or two hours (please check)..
Either go skiing or observe through the large windows - the only ski slope I know of in a shopping mall!
Yes, skiing in Duabi!!! What a experience... Go to Mall of the Emirates and you will find excellent artificial snow where to sky. Excellent adventure!!!
