    Wafi City

An Egypt atmosphere in Dubai, the shopping mall complex is a-must-do visited, since it has a nice architecture.
It has a mall, cinema, nice restaurants, nice night life activities, spas and gym.
In this shopping complex, you don’t have to go for shopping. Just have a nice walk and take some pictures, that will do.

Ancient Egyptian Elements at Wafi Mall

Wafi City is a large complex of everything. Its focus is a shopping centre called Wafi Mall containing high end shops, but the complex also includes a cinema, restaurants, bars/lounges, cafés, a spa and a fitness centre. The luxury Raffles hotel is also part of the complex, along with residential apartments. The entire complex draws its architectural inspiration from Ancient Egypt (it is owned by Al-Fayeds of London after all) and many of the buildings are in the shape of a pyramid, including the Raffles hotel itself.

Egyptian style columns at the WAFI mall

The WAFI shopping Mall can now be easily reached using the new green metro line. Get off at Dubai Health Care Station and it is five minutes walk away. The shopping mall is behind the Raffles Hotel. The mall follows an Egyptian theme with pyramid shaped buildings, columns with Egyptian reliefs, pharaoh and Anubis statues. Inside there is a modern shopping mall which during our visit was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Downstairs is an old style souk type shopping mall and restaurants. At 6.30. 7,30, 8.30 and 9.30 there are sound and light shows. These are free and can be viewed from the central WAFI square. Themes vary but the ones we saw were based around Christmas.

On a previous visit we went to the Wafi at night to see the sound and light show which was free and very enjoyable. This time we went by day to look at all the Egyptian theme stuff. As the visit was at Christmas we also looked at all the Christmas decorations.

The Wafi is very easy to reach nowadays; just take the green line of the metro to Dubai Health Care City. In the distance you will see the pyramid shaped Raffles Hotel; the WAFI shopping mall is next to that.

The open square in the middle of the WAFI (where the sound and light show takes place) has models of the pharaohs and more Anubises than you can shake a fist at. Inside there is an area with a glass pyramid roof covered in pictures of Ancient Egyptian gods, goddesses etc. There is also a huge Christmas tree in the main part of the shopping centre. There is a characterful old style souq with a great looking restaurant. As well as many shops, there are also many places to eat, a spa and an Indian restaurant with upstairs outdoor garden.

A pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. The big bus tour tour comes here, too.

    Christmas at the WAFI.

Despite Dubai being a Muslim country, it does excellent Christmas decorations, especially in its shopping malls. The WAFI has some of the best Christmas decorations - a huge tree and all sorts of little Christmas scenes around it and a Christmas themed sound and light show.
