Goodies in Wafi: A taste of the Middle East
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Goodies is a Lebanese restaurant and foodcourt right inside the Wafi Mall. You can either dine in the rooftop terrace restaurant, or buy middle eastern delicacies such as fresh fruits, cheese, meats, hummus, spices, etc.

What impressed us the most was their extensive olive-bar - numerous varieties of olives. Also, there are counters and counters of sweets and bakeries.

Olives from the olive bar. Even if you don't like olives - just looking at the variety makes your mouth water.

    Kan Zaman: Creekside outdoor dining.
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • A huge restaurant with seating for 1,000 people, in the restored historic area of Shindagah in Bur Dubai. Right on the creek, it's best at night, when it fills up around 9.30. The dinner-tour dhows, outlined in lights, go right past. Great food, service, atmosphere. A big menu of international and Middle Eastern dishes but it's best to stick with the Arabic food which they do extremely well.

Sheesha is available with many different tobacco flavours.

Sitting in the darkness with the lights all around, the scent of sheesha on the warm night air, dhows sailing past, the moon above, the call to prayer echoing out...it's a real experience you shouldn't miss.

Shish tawouk with either rice or fries plus a dish of hommos, which comes with complimentary freshly-baked Arabic bread (watch it being made in the tandoori oven) and a big dish of salad.

As the restaurant isn't in a hotel it doesn't serve alcohol. Don't let that put you off though. They serve the best fresh lemon & mint juice I've found so far.

Madinat Jumeirah is a stunning new complex of hotels, villas, shops, souks, restaurants, cafes.

A great experience is to eat in the outdoor area of Souk Madinat, which the surrounding restaurants & cafes service. It overlooks the waterway and amphitheatre. You can order a full meal, or have just a coffee or a fruit juice.

Mine, as always, is shish tawook, hommos, Arabic bread and salad. plus lemon & mint juice which is from Al Makkan restaurant. Geina likes the variety of savoury snacks from Dome, which between 4 & 7 pm are three for the price of two.

Al Makan: Excellent Arabic food, beautiful decor.
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • You can eat in the restaurant itself, just outside in the walkway of the souk or
al fresco in the general eating area overlooking the waterway & amphitheatre.

Inside is beautifully decorated in traditional Arabic style, the staff are friendly and efficient.

Food is top quality, the prices are very reasonable, and much cheaper than the waterfront restaurants on the lower level of Madinat Jumeirah.

Shish Taouk Irani, which is chicken tikka pieces marinated in saffron & yoghurt and grilled to perfection. Plus a dish of hommos. You also get a complimentary salad plate and basket of Arabic bread.

As the restaurant isn't in a hotel it doesn't serve alcohol. Don't let that put you off though. I can recommend fresh lemon & mint juice.

Waves @ Le Meridien Mina Seyahi: Our favourite buffet
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • An international buffet with a huge selection of dishes and accompaniments. Included in the price are all house wines, beer, soft drinks, mineral water, juices, which makes it amazing value for money at AED190 per person. (Drinks are not included on Thursday evenings).

The food is excellent, the service is five star, the atmosphere relaxed and welcoming. There is inside or terrace dining overlooking the gardens and you can dress casually or in a suit & tie, whichever you feel more comfortable in.

Sitting in Waves you also enjoy the live music played in the adjoining hotel Lobby throughout the evening.

We enjoy different flavours & textures - such as in mezza/tapas/dim sum food, so buffets are a good option for us.

At Waves we usually choose smoked salmon with various tasty things such as capers, coleslaw, horseradish sauce, with white wine. Then perhaps rare roast beef with vegetables and red wine, or a fish dish. And of course a selection from the dessert display - usually a few of the different chocolate concoctions on offer.

Possibly some cheeses to finish the meal, with Double Espresso.

    Magic Wok: Chinese Cusine
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Magic Wok is one of the many fast food stall within the food court of the Mall of the Emirates.

It caters to Chinese food. They have noodles, rice toppings and dimsum.

They got big serving for value meal which includes rice, one main course (either chicken, beef, fish or seafood) plus mixed veggies.

The place is really crowded around 12 lunch time and 7 dinner time. Advisable to eat and dine before the said time so you wont have a hard time queuing and finding a seat.
