Whilst I looked around a couple of the massive malls in Dubai, I wanted to buy a digital camera and found the cheapest and best place to buy it was in a Supermarket called Carrefour which I think is a French shop.
I bought a digital camera which retails for around £350-£400 back in the UK for less than £200 and I bought a 512 mb memory card to go with it for a total of just over £200.
I also bought a Pierre Cardin bag for carrying hand luggage through airports for less than a tenner.
The place was massive and far cheaper than at home and if carrying it wasn't an issue, I could have really gone to town.
What to buy: Digital Camera
What to pay: About 60% cheaper than the UK
You certainly will be able to get some bargains at the 2 Dhs & 5 Dhs shops which are common in Dubai. As the things are cheap you might end up buying more than you planned for. Make sure you don't go over board, why not ?? Just get there and go over board you might find some nice little gifts to take back to loved ones.
What to buy: A range of Items and little give aways.
What to pay: Between 2 Dhs & 5 Dhs
A mammoth of a place - i haven't discovered it completely in my ~ 1 yr of stay!
wot Louvre Museum is to Paris is Deira City centre to Dubai.
Plug-Ins and Axiom on level 2: computers, handhelds, digi cams and mobiles.
IKEA, CarreFour - massive (u get all ur stuff here ... much as other CFs around the world)
What to buy: Everything under the Sun.
The sun itself is scorchy hot tho! (50deg in May)
What to pay: beware of the amt in ur credit card or bank balance!
prepare a shopping list and strictly avoid impulse buying
Seriously, this place is huge, and I would recommend spending the better part of your day in here. Actually, when you're walking around you really don't know what time it is. I spent 8 hours in here without even thinking about it, and I didn't even go into all the shops. Definately not recommended for the light-hearted shopper.
If I remember correctly, the shopping mall is split into three floors, with a Carrefour supermarket on the bottom. Any brand you can think of, they've got it in here: Zara, Debenhams, River Island, Ikea... the list is endless.
In terms of electronics, I highly recommend shopping around to get a better price. Mention to the assistant that you've looked elsewhere for an item, they'll give you a better price.
The top floor is dedicated to food, with a wide choice of restaurants for any pallete.
What to buy: Definately clothes and housing items - some things less than half the price in Europe. Designer fashion labels are cheaper, but some big names will still melt your credit card.
What to pay: In here? Probably all your life savings if you go shopping mad. But it being Dubai, you'll find things a lot cheaper than anywhere in Europe.
City Center is the most busy mall and it get everything . Hyper market , Cinema, Resturants.......................Real Mall
