Jumeirah Beach, Dubai
One of the most romantic and relaxing evenings we spent in Dubai was down in Jumeirah at the beach. We drove out of the city and strolled along the water, watching the stars in the night-sky, listening to the ocean, and feeling the soft sand under our feet. And then of course - there on the horizon was the Burj in all it's glory: towering high up in continuously changing colors.
If your hotel is not on the beach, the best is to go on the beach called Jumeirah beach park. The entrance is about 1,50 euros. Acrossing nice park, you arrive on the beach covered with palms. The water is warm and very crystal and clear. There is the fast food restaurant on the beach. It's possible to hire towels, deck-chairs and beach-umbrellas.
There are many hotels queuing on the beach road in Jumeirah which have their private beach. You can go to Jumeirah Beach Park with minimal fee of AED5. They have facilities like changing room, toilets, foodstalls, showers and bbq pits. You can either laze under the sun on the beach or picnic on the green grass(wonder how they keep the grass green at all time on a desert land). You can rent sunbed for AED10 and big umbrella for AED10 or bring extra towel. The sands can get very hot in summer months AED10 is worth paying.
If AED5 is too much for you (?) you can opt for the open beach. No charges but there's many hard labourers off from work and chill out on the beach and stare at you. They just stare, especially if you wear a swim suit or bikinis. So, the moral, if you go to open beach, don't wear swimsuit or bikinis..you'll be the target!
It is completely safe though because there's police patrolling the beaches.
There are various beaches that are known as Jumeirah.
Jumeirah is an affluent suburb of Dubai, south west of the city.
1) The Public Beach near Dubai Marine Beach resort is also known as Russian or Moscow beach especially by taxi drivers. I'm sure you can work out why. It is open, sheltered, gently shelving, there is car parking, kiosks and showers - and it's completely free! It is also covered in cigarette ends and full of men who come to stare at the ladies from Eastern Europe in their inappropriate string-like beach wear bottoms.
2) Jumeirah Beach Park is the municipal park. It is a very clean beach with toilets (not clean) snack bar and showers. There are large landscaped grass areas with beautiful flowers and trees. There are barbecue grills for free and lots of trees/sunshades. It gets packed on Thursday & Friday particularly in the afternoon and evening. Very popular with large groups.
Free parking outside; 5 dhs for adults. 20 dhs per car if you want to park inside.
Warning: Saturday is Ladies' Day.
Women & children only.
NO MEN OR TEENAGE BOYS WILL BE ADMITTED for the whole of the day.
This enables muslim ladies to visit the park.
3) Jumeirah beach strip - behind University of Wollongong, near Dubai Offshore Sailing Club and up towards Jumeirah Beach hotel - open beach with no facilities, very popular with the kite surfing and surfing fraternity - great place to watch the action for free.
From the beach you have great views of the Burj Al Arab. It`s nice white sandy beach with nice warm clear water. A nice beach to come to when in Dubai with the really great views.
Jumeira beach at Dubai Marina is a very nice and long sandy beach. It is the most famous beach in Dubai, and the area has fine hotels. This is the place where most of the tourists hang out.
