Ski Dubai and the Mall of the Emirates

by easterntrekker

This is stop 32 on the Metro and cost about $4.50 return from our hotel. My main reason for choosing this out of the many malls to visit was to take a peek at the ski hill.It was pretty cool ,like a miniture snow village. There is a 4 person snow lift and even a bobcat run . There's a little village ski area where you can rent skis and ski outfits and shops where you can buy the latest in ski fashion . Although its by no means the rockies , people were having lots of fun and some seemed to take their sking serious , telling there tales of wipe-outs and such. The mall itself is huge but best to go with a fat wallet . Lots of designer stores and expensive shops. Tax free or not we checked prices and compared to our stores in the USA , like Coach for example the prices seemed to be higher.

The Jumeirah Mosque

by easterntrekker

This is the only Mosque which is open (at times) for tourists. Built in the medieval Fatimid tradition, this stone structure is a tribute to modern Islamic architecture. It is of a simple design but quite beautiful with its natural coloured stone walls and stone carvings. We walked around the whole of the building . I am puzzeled how , what looked like a banyoun tree could grow in these desert conditions.

The Heritage Museum and Village

by easterntrekker

Heritage MuseumOnce the home of early Dubai inhaditants , it is now recreated for tourists. The stone dwellings are made from sea stone and coral rock. The homes line narrow winding passages through the little town. We enjoyed the lifelike displays that told the story of life in early times. With only a half hour we took a quick walk arond stopping to read some of the displays that caught our interest. I think to do it justice you could spend at least an hour here. There's a really good restaurant there too.

To the top of the World's Highest Building

by easterntrekker

Berge Kaleifai booked our tickets online to avoid the lineup. That went well but none the less ,with only two elevators to move the masses to the top we waited over an hour altogether going and coming. Although we did get a good view from the top , I can't recommend it . We were only on the top for about 20 minutes, once you see it ,you're done. I don't think the experience was worth the long wait time. Its an amazing siight to see from the ourside anyway, without waiting for a ride to the top.

The city of Merchants Tour - Arabian Adventures

by easterntrekker

We left the hotel at 2:15 and returned at 8PM This was an interesting , well co-ordinated tour that covered some of the highlights of Dubai..We started at Jamail , an area where local Muslems only can lived . We had a drive by view of the three palaces and then stopped at a Mosque for pictures. We went to the Fort and Hertitage Museum before continuing to the Spice and Gold souks. We had helpful commentary along the way from our leader. There were 39 of us on the tour , a bit larger than I expected but we found it to be a very enjoyable day. I booked the Tour online with Arabian Adventures. Cost was about $35.00.

This is a man made island in the sea. Really something amzing they built. When traveling on the palm you see all the beauitful houses and hotels. There is still alot of construction taking place here but I`m sure when they done it`s really going to be fantastic.

The Mall of Emirates and Ski Dubai

by cokes

I stayed in Al Barsha and the closest mall to my hotel was the mall of Emirates. This is really great mall and very big. It catters for everyone including those who plan to ski in a desert :-D ,really awesome to see the Ski Dubai. Make sure you dress warm when you plan on visiting here. One thing that I love about this mall being a guy ,the entrance where I took a taxi to and from my hotel is the entrance where we normally see all these exotic cars ,the ones in the e-mails that`s sent around. Something to look out for if you a car enthusiast. I also took the Big Bus Tour from here and the bus stops at the entrance at the food court.

Burj Khalifa

by cokes

This is the tallest building in the world ,really an amazing sight. During my visit to Dubai I wasn`t able to go to the public viewing area as they were still busy working in the inside. I`ll be there at the end of March and can`t wait to go. Just make sure you book your tickets online from the website I provided to avoid any hassles of not getting any tickets.Tickets is 100 AED for General Admission for Adults and Kids under 13 is 75 AED. For immediate admission it`s 400 AED if you didn`t book any tickets and want to go immediately up to the public observation.

Atlantis Dubai

by cokes

This hotel is sitauted on the Palms that is built in the sea. You have awesome views of this hotel when you on the Main road on the palms when eventually goes into a tunnel in the sea and comes out to another part of the palms where Atlantis Dubai is situated. It also a nice place to stop if you wanna check out the hotel and go to the water park. The water park has alot to offer from beaches ,cool water slides , Dolphin Bay where you can have a dolphin experience. Makes a great family outing for a day visit.

Big Bus Tour

by cokes

This is a great way to see Dubai ,to cover all the tourist stops from the New Dubai to the old Dubai. You can hop off at sights and just wait for the next bus and hope and continue with your sightseeing. The buses has a aircondition lower lever of the bus and only the front of the bus ontop has aircondition as the rest of the bus on top is open. They give U a head set when you use the bus ,you plug into a box in the seat and you there is information of the sights that you passing by.There is various tours like Day or Night Tours. If you have a day tour ticket you can upgrade it for night tours. There is also some free entrance to some Museums and so on but check website for details.
