pottery in Hatta Heritage Village by sachara In the UAE there are a lot of shopping possiblities in the large towns in the famous souks and shopping malls. In Hatta in the Heritage Village I found this very cheap and lovely local pottery. I like pottery, but finally I could resist to buy this fragile stuff. So I only brought this picture home. Bowling after shopping by Faiza-Ifrah Dubai is the most visited city by the tourists. So I am producing a list of shopping centers that we recommend for visiting. One great feature in the shopping centers of the UAE is games, cinemas, international food or other activity that one can do after shopping. Local / economic stuff: 1. Al Naef (Nasir Square) 2. Souq Al kabir Jewellery: Al Manal Center (Gold Souk) in Deirah Dubai Retail Malls: 1. City Center (Deirah Dubai): Carrefor as anchor, Ikea, Woolworths, other upscale stores, children play area / amusement park, food court, cinemas and hotel. 2. Wafi City (Bur Dubai): Jashanmal as anchor and many upscale stores in this architectural masterpiece. Themed foodcourt by the name of Pyramids. Play area for children. 3: Lamcy Plaza (Bur Dubai): Lots of economical stores, a great foodcourt and cinemas. 4. Al Qabael Discount Store: Lots of low priced goods from all over the world.
Items of interior decoration, cutlery, clothes, imported shoes. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Typical shop in the Gold Souq by hjohnso4 The gold souqs of the Gulf have achieved the weary status of a cliche. Yes, there is lots of Gold. Yes, some of the craftsmanship is unique to the region, but much of it is from India. You will not find much in the way of 'bedouin' jewelry, but you will find many crass, modern designs. You might be amazed by the sheer number of gold shops, but a second glance will pick up the general shabiness of the area, and the fact that few locals seem to be shoppping. A tourist trap with good prices, if gold is your obsession.
Gold Coins - regional 8 gram coins, 21-24 carats, which are likely unavailable outside of the Gulf. A curious example is an 1896 King George VI sovereign. Gold Bars - in many shapes or sizes. Traditional souvenirs - brass and copper coffee pots, vases, plates, etc... Marble chess sets. Waterpipes. Jambias, the traditional knives of the peninsula. Carved and inlaid wooden boxes.
Very little. Gold is sold at weight. There is little or no cost for workmanship. Leave a Comment Theme: JewelryDirections: Deirda Dubai, across from heritedge village.

If its gold your looking for try the Souk districts. They have an amazing amount of gold to choose from. You pick out what you want then pay for it not before you do some serious barganing. Leave a Comment Theme: Jewelry

Fresh dates from the Middle East. by colin_bramso Amongst all the various fruits for sale there is a row of stalls specialising in one of my favourites, fresh dates. Desert country, palm trees, dates go together naturally and no fruit could be more local, so try a selection to get the true local flavour.
There is a huge choice of different types of dates, from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman. Taste and texture are quite different from each other, but the shopkeeper will let you try before you buy.
The price varies from Dh5 to Dh20 a kilo. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: This photo was taken in the market at Shindagha in Bur Dubai, but on our last trip I saw that it's been re-located to one of the new development areas. I believe you now need to go for quite a drive along Emirates Road.

The City Center Mall is precisely what you would expect from an oil-rich country with a high standard of living - the lap of luxury. Every conceivable costly name-brand from Europe and America is represented here, and at a heavy discount.

from my own experiences, shopping for clothes at karama market is wasted time and money. if you are not of slim build and medium height, forget it! better off shopping for specials at bur juman or city centre shopping centres. maybe karama is better shopping for women's clothing??? good range of fashion for the 12 to 30 age group or for muso's playing around dubai looking for cheap stage clothes, but i still think you are better of in the shopping centres. plus karama turns into a sauna in summer.
gold and diamonds. Leave a Comment Theme: Men's ClothesDirections: all taxi drivers know these shopping centres and markets.

this tip is for all muso's working or about to work in dubai. ok there are a lot of instrument shops near the 'fish roundabout' most taxi drivers will know this place....easy to spot because there is a large chrome fish statue in the centre of the roundabout. there are two shops at karama worth checking out. one is next to the market in a side street. sorry i can't be more specific but it wont take long to find. plus another good shop at karama that is on za'abeel rd. check these places out. it is worth it.
all guitars amps etc. plenty of keyboards and pa's etc. there is only one good drum shop that is near the fish roundabout.
some prices are cheaper. Leave a Comment Theme: MusicDirections: again, just tell the taxi driver.
