Beach! And Off-liscence :)

by yatesrach

The Beach Hotel, Umm Al Quwain. In my opinion, the best beach in the UAE. If you're not a member it is 50dirham during the week and 100 dirham during the weekend which is Friday and Saturday here. During the weekend it can get very busy, with many people from the larger centres searching for a more remote setting. There is a pool, loungers and huts on the beach. There is an outside bar (yes serving alcohol) and food available. They also have a couple of restaurants. I prefer the food in the bigger restaurant where there is no buffet and they specialise in an Arabic and Lebanese Menu. There is also a bottle store here (off-liscence) with the cheapest alcohol available in the UAE. A vast selection of foreign and local beer, wine and spirits. Ridiculously cheap! So good for stocking up!If you simply just want to go to the beach you can do so, at no personal cost. I have done this many times...

Islands, Flamingos and Crabs

by yatesrach

Flamingo Resort in Umm Al Quwain. If you're already in the UAQ just jump in a cab and its 5 dirham most places and say Flamingos its popular and all the cabbies know it.Here, you can arrange to hire a boat. As of June 2011 the cost was 190dirham per hour and you can take up to 20 people. So excellent for a group. They usually leave on the hour from 9am - 3pm. The boats will take you around the islands and you can see Flamingos and huge sea turtles. Beautiful. They say the morning is the best time to go at 10am. Also at this resort, they have crab hunting courses that are 190 dirham where you learn how to catch them and then bbq them for dinner along with a buffet.Pretty cool eh? I have done the crab hunting yet but I know its popular.Whats better is if you can convince a local to take you out there on their boat, they are really friendly and you may even get to go on the islands.... dont...

Sheikh Zayed Umm Al Quwain Mosque

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

We passed by this Mosque on our way into Umm al-Quwain township. We have been told that there were seven such Mosques in every Emirate. We could only watch it and its beautiful architecture out of a bus window.

Residence of Sheikhs

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Our way was laid along Umm Al Quwain and our guide proposed to show us the Residence of Sheikhs. We agreed and were going to see a Palace but were disappointed because we weren’t allowed to watch the Residence itself - we saw only the park with Sheikh’s roes. More than that it was strictly forbidden to take any photo around the Residence. So nothing to show on this VT-page besides a gate into the Residence and Sheikh’s roes.Umm Al Quwain was ruled until his recent death, on January 2nd 2009, by Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmad Al Mu'alla. The new ruler is Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu'alla. He is the eleventh Al Mualla ruler of the Emirate since the mid-18th century.

Splash, Scream, Swim & Sunscreen!

by JessH

One fine Saturday we were heading towards Umm Al Quwain so our guys could go skydiving & decided to make a day of it & chill-out at DreamLand Aqua Park.DreamLand is a very viable alternative to Dubai's flashy, smaller & more expensive Wild Wadi. The park opened in 1997 and is actually the largest water park in the Middle East. It never seems to get crowded, so you don't have to queue for rides! Some rides require a plastic ring, others don't. Lifeguards are always there to help.> "Twister" is pretty cool: a slide that ends in a bowl in which you swirl around until you are "spat out" at the bottom (see photo).> "Dragons" may be a bit scary for small children as there is no light inside the tunnels & you reach high speeds.> For relaxation & a giggle try the "Dead sea pool", such high salinity actually lets you float... loved it!After splashing about for around 3 hours we decided to...
