Release your Inner Pirate!

by airkarat

The beaches with their rocky stacks and secluded grottos. This is a picture of Scott's first view of Horseshoe Bay - for him he thinks of pirates, shipwrecks and rum-running. For me this view reminds me of magical lands found in fairytale books. Depending on the light, the water can take on an almost mauve hue. My first view of these beaches was just that way, with an encroaching storm forming a dark backdrop behind the pastel and white houses.

Buses and maps

by BillOnt

There is no single place I would take a first time visitor except a walk, anywhere that was convenient. Lots of sights if they liked history and lots of places for scenery. What I would do is get a bus pass and use the buses and ferries to get a feel for the island and people. The other part of enjoying Bermuda is a good map, not just the bus route map. With a good map and a bus pass you are able to walk about on some of the less travelled roads and lanes and find your way back to a bus route when you wish. Telephone books recently included an excellent map if you are lucky enough to find one of these otherwise you will have to buy a good map and they can be hard to find but are there if you keep looking and asking. The musical frogs that sing merrily in the evening and the chickens that welcome you in the morning.

Bermuda is a postcard come to life

by TheTravelSlut

Everyone that visits Bermuda should spend at least some time on the beach or at least on a cliff or viewpoint that overlooks the ocean.Between the fresh, sea air and the view, anyone will walk away with a hearty appreciation of why people love and live in Bermuda. My fondest memory of Bermuda is spending time overlooking the aqua blue-green ocean and just enjoying the moment.I did not want to do anything and I did not need to do anything as I took in the beauty of the area. Anyone that does not take time to soak up this type of natural stress-reliever is missing something special.

Don't Go

by jase201

Well I didn't like it. Wanna talk about fake, then come to Bermuda. The people aren't really nice at all, even though they try to act that way. VERY intolerant to other cultures etc. The whole experience was superficial, and I really feel sorry for the people who live there. I was taken back by the uptight, snobish atmosphere. And NO, I don't wanna dress like you, that is rediculous! Just because you think it looks "proper" or "good" doesn't mean I do.Aside from the Hellos, and Good Mornings, these people are snobs, and I would not recommend going. Total waste of money.

Bermuda--The Island

by VeronicaG

Bermuda is located almost directly to the East of Charleston, South Carolina in the Atlantic Ocean--some distance from the coastline of the United States. This island is benignly overseen by the United Kingdom.

Warm smiles at a place of worship

by Ekahau

In my experience of travel around the world one of the best place to meet local people is in there place of worship (if the are open and welcoming to the public) In Bermuda they are for sure. St John African Methodist Episcopal Church in the Harrington Sound Area - Parishes of Hamilton and Smith's Bermuda is just such a place. It is Bermuda's first African Methodist Episcopal Church Built in the mid-19th C by freed Blacks remains a favorite place of worship. It is at 68 Harrington sound Corner of Wilkinson Avenue and Harrington Sound Road. It is a Black heritage site in Bermuda

Scooter

by GrZA

Rent a scooter. ride it around. Don't run out of gas. That's all I can say. It's the best way to enjoy this island. I normally wouldn't be able to afford such a place but I got the full benefits of a girlfriend's rich uncle. Exploring the lagoons along the beaches--crystal clear water, lots of fish. Photo to follow.

The West End

by Seabiscuit

This is the West End. There's a huge difference between Hamilton (The City) and Hamilton (The Parish). I lived in Hamilton (Parish) and worked in Hamilton (City). Be it known, there are no street addresses. If you need to get to 24 Town Hill Road, and take a taxi, you'll be dropped off at Town Hill and get to walk the rest. The majority of Resorts are on this end, and the most popular beaches are here too. Way, way too touristy for me. Beaches, et al.Horseshoe Bay - Most photographed beach in BDA. The sand is like pink powder. Warwick Long Beach - little bit more gritty than the sand at Horseshoe, but very nice.Shelly Bay - *very* local hang-out.Clearwater Beach - no, I won't tell you where it is. But, it's one of the top 5 (IMHO).John Smith's Bay - wow. What can I say. True sandy Bermudiana.I'll think of others to add...

Where the Hell are We?

by Seabiscuit

This map shows the East End. Not a whole lot up here. The airport is in the upper right, St. Georges and St. Davids are to the right (so's Clearwater Beach - best kept secret in Bermuda). I live in the little bay area called Bailey's Bay on North Shore (that's the little blip towards the lower left).

Bermuda - Pink Sand and Sun

by cruisingbug

Horseshoe Beach is beautiful. If you turn to the right as you go onto the beach, you'll find a little cove area with great, protected snorkeling. I don't know if you're actually allowed (no signs were posted) but we climbed up even further and went to the other side to get this picture.
