by Weener

Check out the beautiful golf courses. If you are a golf fan, the courses on Bermuda are stunning. I am not sure of the name of this golf course, but this is the view from Forest Hills. I'm not actually a golf fan myself, but appreciate the beautiful scenery.

See as much of this island nation as you can without being too touristy. Also take the ferry ride across the Great Sound at least once simply to enjoy the scenery. Feeling as though I had returned to a long lost home on my very first visit there.

A friend of mine's (Eric) father was located here on business for a few years so we stayed with his family in a beautiful home. Their home was actually pictured on a postcard we saw in one of the tourist traps on Front Street. Most people do not realize that Bermuda (photos) is not as far south (geographically) as the Caribbean. I visited Bermuda during spring break and as a result the weather was nice but not nice enough for shorts and swimming (but it sure beat the snowy situation back in upstate NY!). While in Bermuda, we rented the typical mode of transport, a motor scooter. One entire afternoon was spent sitting on one of the house’s balconies listening to Jimmy Buffett on the CD player and drinking many margaritas. We watched the cruise ships “park” out in the bay and ferry their passengers to Front Street. I just doesn’t get better than that! We also visited Horseshoe Bay, and...

A good place to begin your visit to St. George’s is in King’s Square. Located in the center of town, it’s the hub of St. George’s life, and most residents pass through it regularly. The first stop on the square should be the Visitors Service Bureau, where you can pick up information about the parish and town activities. As you stroll around King’s Square, your attention will be drawn to the stocks, pillory and whipping post, replicas of those used to punish criminals nearly 200 years ago. Across the bridge on Ordnance Island is the ducking stool, employed in those times to punish nags, gossips and other miscreants. The Town Crier, bedecked in traditional costume, appears frequently to ceremoniously commit the town drunk to the stocks and to duck the town gossip.

Sandy's ParishLocated on Somerset Island, Somerset Long Bay is also the site of a nature preserve. Because its waters are shallow and tranquil, it is highly suitable for non-swimmers and children; public rest rooms are available. Although it is not among the islands' premier beaches, it does offer sunbathers exposure to very pleasant midday and late-afternoon sun.Mangrove Bay is another great spot for families. With smooth water and very little wave action, it is perfect for wading.Southampton ParishTwo of Bermuda's first-rate beaches, West Whale Bay and Church Bay, are also among the smallest. The secluded spots in Southampton are known for their pink beauty as well as for the dilapidated forts that still stand guard: one on a hill overlooking West Whale Bay and the other, dating back to 1612, at Church Bay. Public conveniences help make Church Bay recommendable. And a sense of...

Try visiting the Bermua Perfume Factory. The tour is a little lack luster, but the scents will forever remind you of the island... for the ladies Oleander is absolutely amazing, and for the gents, I really liked Bravo. Taking a spill on our scooter at Warwick Long Bay (j/k). Actually, after countless attempts to try to find the Natural Arches, on our last day we actually found them! They are absolutely amazing, we really enjoyed the beach, the arches and the entire experience there... compunded by teh fact there was not a cloud in the sky and it was 72 degrees.

Have you penny! At the commercial center, there was a machine that could transform pennies. We could put 51¢, choose a model out of 4 and turn the crank. The penny got out flattened with an ovale form, with the model choosen engraved on one side and nothing on the other side. Guess which one I choose? « I survived the Bermuda mopeds

WEATHER : Bermuda is a little less South than I thought, but the temperature was perfect to visit (between 18 and 22 degrees, with a lot of humidity in January). Unfortunately, it was a bit too cold to swim, but Alain did a little dip. As for me, I swam in the outdoor pool of the Southampton Princess, and it was heated. Great!!

TASTE THEIRE BLACK RUM : Another interesting aspect of Bermuda is their black rum. It is delicious! They serve this with a soft drink called Ginger Beer. It’s like a rootbeer, but with ginger. Together with the rum, they call a Black’n Stormy. It very good, with or without rum. Pretty sweet though. As for the rum, it is quite strong. Wait to buy it at the airport! You will save A LOT!! But of course, during your trip, you can buy for your own consommation... It is so goooood!BTW at Black Seal Shop, you can taste before you buy! Nice hey?Gosling's / Black Seal shopFront Street, Hamiltonwww.blackseal.com
