Tuscany Restaurant: Freestyle Dining Option

by grandmaR

We didn't eat here, but this is the entranceway to the Tuscany Restaurant which is on second floor opposite cruise ship docks. It was a Freestyle Dining Option for the NCL ships.According to Bermuda 4uThe main dining room has a tray ceiling with exposed cedar beams and is a classic example of Bermudian architecture. One side of the restaurant has a colourful fresco depicting the Tuscan countryside and spacious booths affording diners a great deal of privacy. Every table is laid with crisp linen tablecloths and napkins. The outdoor veranda offers spectacular views of Hamilton Harbour and the comings and goings on Front Street The reasonably priced menu is strictly Italian. A nice touch is the complimentary bread and olives provided on arrival. Appetisers include Mozzarella Alla Caprese (fresh mozzarella with sliced tomatoes, avocado, basil and extra virgin olive oil). For an entree try...

Port of Call Restaurant: Ship on Land

by grandmaR

This is one of the places that we passed while strolling along Front Street. We haven't eaten here, but it’s the only upscale restaurant on Front Street offering al fresco dining at ground level. You can see some of the chairs at the bottom of the picture. This looked like a fancy place but it wasn't on our Freestyle Dining list, so we probably couldn't afford it. You can't see it in the picture, but the interior has recessed lights (imitating port holes), brass fittings and cedar panelling.I understand that reservations are strongly recommended. It has a sister restaurant Bistro J, which shares the same kitchen if you can't get a reservation. It is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. If I could afford it, I might order:Herb-roasted Fillet of Atlantic Salmon with chive and lemon sauce. From September 1 to March 31, fresh Bermuda spiny lobsters cooked in several ways, including...

Harley's in 1995: Breakfast looking over the Harbor

by grandmaR

Every morning we had a breakfast buffet while enjoying the view of the harbor. We also had a wonderful Thanksgiving Buffet here on Thursday night. (Their interpretation of a tradition Thanksgiving meal was a little different but good) In season, "guests can dine indoors in a charming trattoria-style setting or al fresco harborside, under the beautiful Bermuda sky", but we didn't do that. Hours of Operation: (May vary seasonally) Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sunday Brunch: 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch: 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pool Service: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Dinner: 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Reservations:Reservations are recommended for lunch and dinner.Dress Code:Smart casual dress is suggested. The photo shows an anchored tall ship and a British destroyer leaving after visiting the harbor. The breakfast buffet was quite extensive, but I no longer remember exactly what it...

KFC: Even In Bermuda

by grandmaR

KFC is one of the few fast food chains in Bermuda. It is the only one unless you consider Four Star Pizza to be a fast food chain. When the Kentucky Fried Chicken opened c 1980, the government moved swiftly to close a loophole in planning laws and declared no more fast-food franchises would be permitted. An application to open a McDonald's 20 years ago was turned down and it is being tried again in 2007. Many Bermudians are just as opposed now as they were in 1980.So if you want fast food, you have to go to Hamilton and get chicken.

The Spot Restaurant: Dreadlocks

by grandmaR

I took this picture because of the guy in his window with his back to us. It is a local diner type place which according to Fromers attracts "a clientele of off-duty police officers, construction workers, nurses from the local hospital, residents of nearby self-catering vacation apartments, and all kinds of local residents who appreciate the low prices and plentiful portions.."Sounds like my kind of place - unfortunately, it wasn't time for lunch yet. Open Mon-Sat 6:30am-10p Breakfast platters $6.50-$11; burgers, sandwiches, and salads $6.50-$13; main course platters $9.50-$17 Credit Cards Not accepted Bob would probably order a hamburger. I might be adventurous and getOxtail stewCurried chicken or aWest Indian breakfast - codfish with potato fritters

Ristorante Primavera and Omakase Sushi Bar: Just Outside Town

by grandmaR

We didn't eat here. The Italian restaurant is downstairs and the Sushi Bar is upstairs. If I didn't chose one of the 17 different pizzas, I might get Cotoletta di Vitello ai Ferri (grilled veal chop with tomato comfit, charred asparagus and saffron risotto).
