Packing for an Island Adventure

by cjg1

Depending on the length of stay we usually bring a suitcase and a carryon. We always have a beach bag for the beach days. Warm weatehr means lightweight clothing. We pack lightweight materials such as linene shirts and tees for me so I can stay cool in the heat. Liz prefers sundresses to keep her cool. We both bring hats to shade our heds and face from the strong rays of the sun. Basic shampoo, conditioner, hair gel, contacts, razor, deodorant, shaving cream, tooth brush & paste, and sunblock. Digital camera, card reader and video camera. Beach bag and towels along with bathingsuits.

Bermuda-The Island

Bermuda is located off the coast of South Carolina, some distance away in the North Atlantic Ocean. The island is benignly overseen by the United Kingdom. Bermuda actually consists of 138 coral islands and islets. It's population as of 2006 is almost 66,000.

Bermuda
A passport - you need one

by Ekahau

I had the unpleasant experience of standing in line behind a passanger in New York who had showed up at the Airport to go to Bermuda without a Passport or Birth certificate. Than I got to listen to the lady berate the American Airlines staff who would not give her a ticket. Oh lucky me!!!. The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative USA law requires all travelers, including U.S. citizens, to and from the Americas, the Caribbean, and Bermuda to have a Passport. If you do not have one get one. This law goes into effect on Jan 8th 2008 but the Bermuda side wants you to have a passport NOW -- although you can still offically use a Birth certificate (with a photo ID) or a certificate of naturalization if it has a photo on it. See the website below for more details. (January 8, 2007 – Passport requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America,...

Basic Necessities

by Lady-Charisma

Try to travel light, but load up on the basic necessities as prices for just about everything are very costly compared to the U.S. Because I have only been there in the winter, I suggest you bring some light sweaters, a sweatshirt and maybe a nice jacket (like maybe a suit jacket) to go out to dinner in. Bring some jeans (but nice and decent ones because Bermuda leans on the more conservative side) to walk around in, and some evening attire to go out to dinner in. Like I emphasize earlier...bring any necessary essentials with you, as everything is so costly in Bermuda. If you have the money to spend, everything is available. However, for those of us who are on a tighter budget, you will definitely want to bring basic supplies. Definitely bring your camera, whether it is a disposable cam, a digital cam, or a video cam, because I assure you that there will be plenty of scenic...

Bring your swimwear!
Funky weather!

by liqdstar

If you go to Bermuda in the winter months, be prepared for many changes in the weather! The day can go from tee-shirt warm to sweater cold! I would advise packing light shirts and light sweaters, and don't forget a jacket. It also rains sporadically, so pack an umbrella thats small enough to carry all day! THe island is extremely expensive, so make sure to purchase all medicinal supplies before leaving your hometown!

RAINCOAT!!!! Tie Down Your Hat

by CdnJane

Rain gear... especially something light and easily carried. The wind can be wicked so if you're worried about your "coif" hair spray it down, and/or have a head cover that you can tie on. Bring lots of film - lots of digital camera media... bring your camera and snap away.

Packing List

Depening on how long you go, a suit case is best to bring, with a carry on bag if you are going by plane Shorts, swim wear, tank tops, running shoes, sandles, t shirts, and perhaps a sweater for cooler nights. Also dress clothes. You must dress up to go to some resturants, and clubs. SUN BLOCK. I cannot stress that enough. I got burned so badly so many times there, with sun block on!! And any normal stuff like advil. You can find all that stuff in Bermuda if you wish, but if you are CND or I should say not American, it can get costly. Camera. Water proof camera, if you want. Batteries can be found on the island for most cameras. Bring your swimming trunks, a towel, some lotion, water, and sunglasses if you head out to the beach! Which you will!!

Bring a day back pack and/or fanny pack so when you ride the moped your hands are free. Keep your camera/purse inside the pack--hey it's the world, people can be tempted to snatch an easy target any where. If boating, think of a waterproof bag for camera, valuables, meds, etc. And sun-protective clothing. It's hot and HUMID in the summer, but don't get sloppy. Try to wear loose fitting, fairly nice clothing. Always be prepared to completely cover up a bathing suit with something decent looking when you go from beach to bar/etc.If you'll be snorkeling, wading,( like for fishing), why not save some dough and bring your own snorkel, booties, flippers? When boating, it's ok to dress like a slob--but wear protective clothing, especially near the water--the sun's STRONG here. Things are always expensive and sometimes limited selection on islands--bring any products you'll need with you....

Dress casual, but look nice. This is the land of Bermuda shorts. No torn jeans, no short shorts, and no tank tops. If you are coming from the US, there is no need to exchange money. Most, if not all places take US currency.
