by TerryP Tourists are not allowed to rent cars. There is little space to park. I even heard that the locals get to work by 6 in the morning so they can get a parking spot. You are allowed to rent mopeds (motor bikes) to get to the out of the way locations. But we found our way to HorseShoe Bay using the local bus service with no problem and there are several taxis waiting at the dock to take travelers around town for a reasonable price. And there are always tours that provide transporation, as with this horse and carriage. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Bermuda's bus system is well-organised and efficient. You can't miss the big pink liners roving about the island, picking up passengers at the uniform stone stops along the roads. Maybe its the infrasructure, the timliness, or the cleanliness, but Bermuda's bus system is the best I've ever ridden. You can purchase various passes and things, but a ride cost one Bermuda dollar for children and two for adults. All the lines converge on the central terminal on Washington Street in downtown Hamilton, so be prepared to change buses if heading cross-island. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

Foreigners in Bermuda are not permitted to rent cars for some reason. Maybe the Bermudian government is trying to ease traffic or simply doesn't trust Americans on 'drive-on-the-left' roads. In any event, the best private transport for foreigners are mopeds, sort of quieter, smaller versions of motocycles. These things can zip you about the island right quick if you know where you're going. They can be very dangerous, however- the accident rate is quite high. If mopeds don't float your boat, take a taxi or use the excellent public transportation system. Leave a Comment Theme: Motorcycle

I took and cruise one year, and flew the other. I vote for flying. From New Jersey, USA the flight was less than 2 hours. The system is simple. Because Bermuda is so small, taking the bus was never easier. On the sides of the roads are striped poles, denoting a bus stop. Get on the bus on one side of the road, and you go to one end of the island. Get on the bus on the other side of the road, go to the other end of the island. And each bus has a layout of the travel schedule. It was great. I would get off anywhere and just walk around, finding beautiful, unpopulated beaches by cliffs, wonderful flowers, etc. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

by TerryP I've heard that Bermuda is best visiting by cruise ship because of its expense. By cruise, your transportation, room and board are included. However, you can also fly into Bermuda. I believe the airport is in Hamilton. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

Only 2 ways to get there...Air and sea Though they allow motorscooters (no car rentals in Bermuda) The best way and cheepest I found was the bus system. Cost of about $18.00 USD for a 3 day pass, also allows use of the ferry transportation and entry into the famed lighthouse (seasonal) Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

I always go by cruise ship. It's inexpensive (all inclusive) and you dock right on the street. Be careful of the rental scooters! Many tourists are injured on these each year. The bus system is the best way to travel; relatively inexpensive and quite reliable. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

So the busses are pink! You'll be happy to know that they're air conditioned, but its only a solice if they're on time. Just be forewarned that sometimes you might have to wait awhile. If you're going to be doing a lot of bussing, buy a pass...you can buy one with 10 trips or something like that. The busses don't take change, only tokens!! Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

The bus system is very reliable and leaves the main terminal (at least in Hamilton - the town, not the parish) a quarter till and a quarter past the hour (e.g. 8:45 am or 9:15, etc.) on the regular. Oh, and we're all excited about the new bus terminal in the town of Hamilton! It was put into use just yesterday. Better shelter. Hooray! FYI, bus fare is currently (as of today, Feb 3, 2006) the equivalent of $4.50 USD. If you don't purchase bus tickets, bring exact change. Drivers don't carry around change. Anyhow, the US dollar and the Bermuda dollar is equal pound for pound, but slightly different during the exchange process. Consult banks for transaction advice (not me). By the way, not all the bus stops on the island have shelters. Therefore, if you plan on taking the bus, bring a portable UMBRELLA when the skies are lookin' kinda gray because sometimes you just get an unexpected downpour. P.S. When in doubt (even if it's SLIGHT) of which bus to take, ASK THE DRIVER!! They are so helpful. I once found out the hard way and ended up lost (which is kind of amusing since the island is only so big, right?). Anyhow, that was a nice 6-mile hike. Glad I wasn't in heels!!!!! The island has a very good public bus system in place with many stops around the island at regular times. Theme: Bus
