    Yellowknife Restaurants

Yellowknife is a relatively young place, and was very much opened up post-WWII by the introduction of the bushplane (ususally the deHavilland Beaver and later the Twin Otter). The restaurant is seasonal. I was there in early September and they were getting ready to shut down for the season. Food was good, but not outstanding. The atmosphere is...

    Tuktoyaktuk Nightlife

Ok so the nightlife scene up here is rather different, but nonetheless there is nothing more exciting that watching the aurora borealis dance across the star lite sky. Very warm jacket, gloves, long underwear to reduce the possibility of frost bite during your brief excursion outside to watch this natural phenomena.

    Tuktoyaktuk Transportation

The reality is that only the wealthy or people actually working in the north can visit the north. Airline costs to and from small arctic outposts are generally more expensive than a plane ticket from Canada to South Africa. Why you ask? Monopolies. And to a certain extent rising fuel prices or perhaps they use this as an excuse for further...

    Tuktoyaktuk Things to Do

Well any avid adventurer that seeks to complete the Dempster Highway trek from Whitehorse to Inuvik must dip their toes in the frigid Arctic Ocean in Tuktoyaktuk. For a measily 282.00 dollars and a 20 minute flight directly due north you will hit Canada's last continental based community. Tuktoyaktuk is the Canadian version of Timbuctu - most...

The hotel housing this restaurant looks a bit run down and dubious. However, we had a very good meal at the hotel and everybody enjoyed their options. I had the Caribou Stir-Fry with pepper sauce. Excellent. I was told the hotpot was good too.

Although this is not the most exciting thing to do, one can visit this cemetery to see where the "Mad Trapper" is buried. He murdered an RCMP officer in February 1932, and took the RCMP on a multiday chase where he traveled 145 kilometers through a mountain pass believed to be impassable in the winter. He eventually was killed and then buried in this cemetary.
