Visiting arctic tranquility is an expensive feat

    The reality is that only the wealthy or people actually working in the north can visit the north. Airline costs to and from small arctic outposts are generally more expensive than a plane ticket from Canada to South Africa. Why you ask? Monopolies. And to a certain extent rising fuel prices or perhaps they use this as an excuse for further extortion :) no i am not that bitter! Another option is to book an arctic cruise...though expensive it does provide seeing these communities from a coastal perspective and you can enjoy the short summer season.

    I am big supporter of the Canadian bombardier...see picture below. This all terrain vehicle from the 1960s could go anywhere and most of the time it took some of the tundra along for the ride. If they could only make this into a train and find an alternative fuel source rather than diesel then a new travel paradigm could be born in the most remote inhabited region on the planet.
