Nelson, British Columbia....

by unigirl

Nelson, British Columbia. Nelson is a wonderful little place in the south-east of BC. Situated on beautiful terrain, the town was made alive by many Americans who fled the draft for the Vietnam War. Seeing as many hipppies relocated there, Nelson has also gained a reputation as a good-time party town! All in good fun, a great place to visit.....picture care of Lyns

by andreajones

Pennask Lake is situated above Merritt in the interior of British Columbia. A difficult lake to get to without a 4X4 vehicle, it provides some of the best fishing I have ever seen. Take a look at the pic and you will see that fish are not the only thing in the lake! This cougar was seen swimming between the islands.

Further east of Edmonton along Highway 16,about 50km (31miles), lies the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, a reconstruction of an early settlement of these immigrants who arrived in Alberta during 189s and contributed greatly to the cultural development of the province. A reception area has exhibitions on the lives of these pioneers and the story behind their immigration. A cottage in the Ukrainian Village (open-air museum).

The Canadian Rockies are beautiful. Gigantic glaciers, peaks rimed with snow and ice, huge forests, and emerald-green lakes conspire to produce some of the world’s most majestic scenery. There are four contiguous national parks here – Jasper, Banff, Yoho, and Kootenay.

Visit Elk Island National Park, an unspoiled wilderness of forests and likes which is a wildlife reserve. It is about an hour drive east of Edmonton on Route 16 (the Yellowhead Highway). Elk, wood bison, moose, and deer roam here, and hundreds of species of birds can seen. The park has hiking trails (from 2.5 to 18 km – 1.5 ti 11 miles), cross country skiing trails over rolling terrain, and a few lakes.

Love seafood. Just ate some Halibut today, prawns last week, and Rock Cod. I could really live off the land (sea) here in Canada. I like the West Coast, Powell River (for freshwater fishing), Johnston Straight for Salmon, Prince Rupert for Halibut fishing (by a reef called Horseshoe).

In New Brunswick: See Campobello, an island off the province's southeast coast, where FDR and Eleanor had their 34-room 'cottage.' The setting is beautiful, and the home and a small museum, which are co-managed by the US & Canadian governments, are quite moving. Very memorable!

This isn't too far off the beaten path, but you could easily miss it when visiting Toronto. Casa Loma is a literal castle built by an eccentric millionaire (who went broke building the place) and former Canadian military man. Inside are a number of interesting rooms, including a vast library that doubled as a party hall, an indoor garden and a hallway flanked by suits of armor.

by Nonsail

On Prince Edward Island there are three major loops that can be taken to see the various sites on the island. One of them takes you along the eastern coast where I happened upon Cape Bear. It is an out of the way cove where the beach sand is red clay and the water deep blue. The grass is greener than green and I want to retire there some day.
