Packing List

In recent years, the international exchange rate for Canadian dollars has made for tremendous savings for visitors from the U.S. and some other nations that have strong economies. As I am preparing this page, the U.S. dollar is worth about$1.58 in Canadian currency; going the other way, a Canadian dollar was worth about 62 cents in U.S. funds. At the same time, a British pound is worth $.2.27 in Canadian currency; a hotel room priced $114 Canadian would cost my VT friend Geoff Wright £50.

Take what you can carry, I found a backpack the best bet, as I was on the move all the time. You have to remember that Canada is a vast country and as such has extrems of temprature, the north can be bitterly cold in winter and if you go there please wear exreame cold weather gear. otherwise be practical and were shotrs and tee's in summer, xold weather gear for winter. if you are hiking and backpacking I can tell you how important good boots are. you can get everything you need in Canada. you can get everything in Canada. Again if you are hicking or backpacking you will need the normal equipment maybe very good waterproof boots as I remember, may parts of Cananda being very watery underfoot.

Need that backpack for the canoe circuit, the Chilkoot trail, and numerous other hiking opportunities. Rain gear essential and it's cold at night even in the summer. Mozzie repellent. Good tent will save you the $200 you'll invest. Rooms are expensive especially when you get to Alaska.

Definitely bring sweaters, long pants and a warm jacket for fall and spring. Winter requires a heavy coat and a good pair of boots. Summer brings warmer temperatures and from late June to late September you can get away with t-shirts and shorts, but you may want a sweatshirt or light sweater for the evenings. You can get just about any type of medical supply you require and any local drugstore, and if they don't have it in stock it shouldn't take them long to get it in for you. You'll love our camping areas and beaches! In some areas you may need bug spray...and we DO get the hot sun so don't forget your sunscreen. Be careful of strong undertows if swimming in the ocean--sometimes you don't realize how powerful they are until it's too late.

Pack what you need for the activities that you plan to do. If you wish to fish, then bring the clothes to suit this type of sport. Boating, hiking or shopping it depends on yourself to pack the suitable itmes Good shoes are important because the area is very hilly and they help because there is a lot to see and walking around is one of the best ways. Nothing special unless perscrided by your doctor. Anything else can be purchased in most cities or villiage stores. What you are used to. You will need alot if you come to take photographs or videos. Most beaches are of stone, there are a few with sand. Camping area are where you wish to setup, but use common sense. Take what you need for your stay or purchase it in any of the local sport/outdoor retail store. All visitors to Canada are strongly urged to obtain health insurance before leaving their home country. Canadian hospital and...

I didn't even need to declare these, so my doc's letter (listing exactly what I was bringing into Canada with me) was redundant!

Warm Hat

If you are in Canada you are going to need a cool Canada hat like the one in this picture. Just don't drink to much and then venture out into the cold :-)

Always have a sweater handy!

by daffodil

Bring a sweater all year round! If you are visiting after November 1 and before May 1 bring a scarf, hat, mitts, a winter coat and boots! In July and August bring your bathing suit.
