Favorite thing: The contrast of the red soil and the greenery (in summer) and ocean is really intense and should be seen.
Overflowing with great blue herons - try near Charlottetowns Victoria park. Sometimes seals can be seen from the shore.
Lots of great unique artisans and artists living on the island - not always the ones with the most advertising, eg. Kolezar pottery
Generally a very quiet place, with very fresh air. No need to see the "whole island" though unless you love bicycling. Great biking destination since it's not very hilly and lots of low traffic roads. Best restaurants are all in Charlottetown, so it's really a better place to stay than the north shore. Less touristy too. Camping is great here because the most dangerous animal on island is a racoon (well, there are a few coyotes too, but they don't bother people) - kind of cool at night though. Bring heavy sweaters jackets - yes even in August!
Fondest memory: I really liked the caelidh's that they had at the Orwell corner historic village. It is an old wooden building lit by oil lamps, and the performers were really good (actually there are a ton of REALLY great musicians on the island) like Teresa Doyle and she was backed up on guitar. Afterwards they sell you icecream and real strawberries in sauce for something ridiculously cheap like $1.00 and then the locals get up and play instruments like fiddles or guitars and tell stories. i think the whole evening cost $6.00 and no lineups or parking. Of course, most of the music is of the east coast variety - fiddles, folk songs, etc.
I also loved in winter cross country skiing down endless country roads that aren't plowed in winter and gently hilly - you can go for miles - on moonlit nights it is especially beautiful. Very cold in winter though - often -20 in daytime-- not so bad when it isn't windy (which is seldom).

Slow but nice
Favorite thing: The main industry in PEI is Tourism Farming and Fishing. and as you may or may not know that all non existant in the winter. So PEI is nice in the spring summer and fall , but head south for winter if you can. But is is like no other place on Earth for visiting in Summer
Favorite thing: The countryside in PEI is very peaceful. Rolling hills slipping into the ocean. It's a cross between the prairies and the coast.
Fondest memory: The red soil provides an interesting contrast between tohe road and the green fields
