    It's Easy Being Green

by tvor Updated Oct 28, 2006

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Prince Edward Island is fairly well known for all of it's golf courses. Lots of people come to PEI specifically for golfing holidays. Many hotels and inns will offer packages. There is a course for every level of player from family and beginner courses to professionals. Fees will range widely as well. The one right near where we were staying in French River had green fees of up to $20 CAD for 18 holds and half price rates for children. The Golf PEI website lists 21 courses but the provincial website lists 31

    Golfing for All!

by Lisser Written Apr 18, 2003

Prince Edward Island has some of the greatest golf courses in the country. In fact, one in particular ( I'll have to check on the name!) is rated #1 in North America! Pretty impressive for such a small place :)
The courses on the island are a mixture of lush greenery and gently rolling hills. As well, there's guaranteed to be a slight breeze in the air!

    Gentle riding

by BBBinder Written Sep 30, 2005

I am not a hard core bicyclist so when I take a cycling vacation I prefer terrain that is either flat or gently rolling hills. In Prince Edward Island, Canada I found the perfect conditions. That Province has created the Confederation Trail which travels appox. 350 km from end to end of the island with a few spurs. A former rail bed, this trial is made of hard packed gravel and travels down the spine of the island for most of it's length. At the western and eastern end you are near or on the ocean for spectacular views.

The trail is very well maintained and effortless to follow. I recommend riding west to east as that puts the prevailing winds behind you for that extra push.

Equipment: After checking around for the best equipment, at the best price, I rented my bike from Smooth Cycle in Charlottetown, PEI. It was a well maintained Gary Fisher hybrid bike. I also rented panniers from Smooth Cycle to carry my clothes and gear. Smooth Cycle has a shuttle service that will drop you off at one end of the trail and/or pick you up at the other end. It's rather pricey so I opted to be dropped off at the western end of the trail and rode the bike back to Smooth Cycle.

In terms of suggesting clothing consider the season in terms of warmth. Bring light weight rain gear as rain is always a possibility.
