    Canadian Rockies photography

by GentleSpirit Written Mar 13, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

What to buy: Darwin Wiggett is a local photographer in Alberta and his work is well known. His photos of the Canadian Rockies are stunning!

I bought a book of his called "Dances with Light", which is a coffee table book. You can still get it online. A wonderful gift for sure.

There is another book that is harder to find now.
"How to photograph the Canadian Rockies" which gives tips about where to go, when to go and tips for getting the best results. if you see this in a bookstore in Banff get it!

    Safeway: Groceries

by GentleSpirit Updated Oct 30, 2012

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you are visiting from the U.S.....your Safeway discount card is good in Canada. I had forgotten mine at home but the checker entered my phone number and it came right up. This ended up saving me plenty on daily items like water, for example. I have to say I found these quite expensive in Banff.

    Roots: Canadian Brand

    by tuoedisni1 Updated Apr 4, 2011

Roots is mainly a Canadian store, although I think they have a few shops in the US. If this is your first time in Canada, it's worth a look. It's mostly casual clothing, but I think the quality is better than a lot of US shops.

What to buy: Banff clothing souvenirs.

What to pay: $70 CN for sweatshirts / $25 for t-shirts

  • The Last Temptation Thrift: Cheap clothes, gear, books, costumes, blankets, etc

by cherrymcewen Written Jun 7, 2010

2000 sq ft of new and used items. Banff is a really expensive place to visit unless you know where the locals shop. We have musical instruments, vinyl records, tons of consignment quality clothing at thrift store prices, Sports consignment, used books, games, costumes, original art work, cards locally produced, basically everything you actually need at an affordable price. The only store in Banff that you need to know about and the only one that you are least likely to find without someone telling you.

What to buy: Outdoors gear. Weather changes dramaticallly in the same day it can be warm and than snow.

What to pay: avg item $6.50

Any General Store: International Phone Card

by Mikebb Written Oct 9, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It is essential that any international traveller purchase a phone card whilst in Canada. We purchased a $10 card and it had 240 minutes talk time to Australia, you cannot get much further away than that. If you ring a mobile the available time drops by approximately 80% which gives you 50 minutes talk time, very good for $10.

What to pay: You can purchase cards as low as $5

  • RUDE GIRLS: WICKED STYLE... RUDE GIRLS?

by happygoluckymtn Written Oct 7, 2006

This is the female counterpart of RUDE boys... and is the mould for banff style. The store is small but mountain eclectic... and expect to wait for the ONLY change room. BUt... style wise it's worth it, they've not only got women's skate shoes galous, but also cute casual billabong, aoron chang, roxy, volcom shirts. Jeans are limited and overpriced for the brand. Stylish winter jackets flood the store in the winter... and you can even get your snowboard there. It's clothes, snow, and go spirit... gives you an idea about what banff is.

What to buy: A RUDE girls branded American Apparel Shirt

What to pay: A couple tops... $60

  • Mountain Magic Sportswear: Mountain Fashionistas Where to Go

by happygoluckymtn Written Oct 7, 2006

On the surface, this shop seems like your ordinary banff sportswear shop, but it's high style without the gloss. They've got brands other than the typical Billabong, Roxy, and Volcom.... brands that have style... like Juicy Courture, C and C California, and Adidas Original. The best part? You can buy amazing jeans... Sevens, Rock and Rebuplic, and Earnest Sewn.... they even offer a heming service. IT's the CITY but down to earth. The owner also features her original portrait paintings in the store, you can buy one or get a shirt with it. Glitches? Pricy... but your supporting a local bussiness.

What to pay: between 30-70 $ for tops,
    jeans 200 $
    Hoodies 100 $

There are a lot of souvenir shops, a big mall, clothing stores, etc. in town where you can get lots of things! as in Alberta you just pay 7% of tax, it makes a good place to shop.
