Western Canada's largest military museum. Opened in 1990 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Museum of the Regiments offers you the opportunity to understand the role that the Canadian Armed Forces and it's units played and continue to play in bringing peace to the world.
What is it about Calgary and their well done museums? This is the largest military museum in western Canada. A series of lifelike miniature and full-size displays re-create scenes from the Boer War in 1900 to contemporary peacekeeping operations are depicted. You also see videos, weapons, uniforms, medals, and photographs relating the history of the regiments and hear the actual voices of the combatants describing their experiences. It's a good value at $5 (2005)
Only costs $6 for an adult at this place but it is nothing short of excellent for a military musuem. There are many well done dioramas, reconstructions of trenches, and almost all the reconstructions are on sensors. If you walk up to many of the pieces there will be lights and often a speech to go along with them. Excellent effects and well worth the money.
Supposedly in the next few years the other Musuems, the Naval Musuem of Alberta and the Aerospace Musuem will be integrating with this one and should make a good experience even better.
